February 8, 2006 National Family Month Committee
Minutes
The discussion continues toward providing a month of family opportunities, instead of just one day. Branna, however, did express some concern about the feasibility and staffing of such an ambitious effort and the question was raised if committee members had to be in attendance for these events.
The passport idea was discussed, in which people those people in charge of whatever the activity was could do the “stamping”. The concern was that it would take a great deal of coordination to do this and yes, at least one committee member or Branna needed to be present at all activities.
The following destinations or organizations are being investigated by the coordinating committee member:
Discount Day at Imagination Station – Judy (found out that they are not interested Discount Day at Art Museum - Cherry Discount Day at Golf Courses or mini-golf - Carol Discount Day at Prophetstown or Wolf Park - Branna Discount Day at Great Skates - Theresa Bingo or Story Hour at University Place (retirement community) - Branna Visits to Farmers Market - Theresa Visit to Art around the Fountain - Cherry BoilerMaker Special Ride Day - Branna Animal viewing (Columbian Park, Humane Society, Rescue Animals, Monticello’s big cat park) - Judy Police Department event - Ted Fire Department event - Ted Family Fun Walk (could be a culmination of the entire month, maybe incorporate Trees of Purdue?) ______ Ball /other signings by Purdue athletes or coaches ______ Tree Trail Hike on final day - Saturday, June 17 (Tim Detzner to guide?)
We are still working with the five themes of National Family Month: Home (Fire, etc.) Trust (Police, etc.) Love (Elderly, Animals, etc.) Freedom (Art Museum, Imagination Station, etc.) Hope
Next meeting: Friday, February 24 at 12:00 noon at the WorkLife office – we’ll order pizza!
