Most of the 29 competitors have never been on the horse they will ride for the 30 judging, and overfence riders are allowed only two practice jumps 31 before they enter the show ring; and 32 33 Whereas, if the riders are flatting in the competition, then they 34 mount and go directly into the show ring, but they are allowed to 35 watch the horses before the shows begin; and 36 37 Whereas, the considerable skill and confidence required to be 38 judged on an unfamiliar horse, whether undersaddle or over 39 fences, makes success at any level an amazing feat; and 40 41 Whereas, judging is subjectively based on the ability and form of 42 the rider and the elegance, cadence, and style of the horse that

[4100] 2 1 demonstrates that the hunter is easy to ride and attentive and 2 responsive to its rider; and 3 4 Whereas, the nascent team competed against some ten teams to 5 capture the school’s first hunt seat state championship and consists 6 of only nine riders: Ann Taylor, Boyce Myers, Justice Myers, 7 Madison Baker, Olivia Kelly, Kate Robison, Marielle McKissock, 8 Isabelle Reidman, and Anna Peacock. Each member must 9 compete in at least two Interscholastic Equestrian Association 10 shows to qualify and cannot show in more than five; and 11 12 Whereas, Kristina Marie Landrum, in her first year as head coach 13 for Hammond’s hunt seat team, has garnered over seven yearend 14 championships and over five yearend reserve championships for 15 the South Carolina Hunter Jumper Association and Progressive 16 Show Jumping she has trained students of all ages and levels for 17 over twenty years, and she has worked at Landrum Stables for 18 fifteen years, thirteen of them as a barn manager; and 19 20 Whereas, in a sport that demands precision, grace, and strength, 21 Coach Landrum capitalized on her own athletic ability and training 22 to forge a championship hunt seat equestrian team and teach these 23 riders lessons that will prove invaluable through life both on and 24 off the mount; and 25 26 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of 27 Representatives appreciate the pride and recognition that the 28 Hammond hunt seat riders have brought to their school and their 29 community and look to hear of their continued accomplishments in 30 the days ahead. Now, therefore, 31 32 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 33 34 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 35 by this resolution, recognize and honor the Hammond School hunt 36 seat equestrian team, coach, and school officials for an outstanding 37 season and congratulate them for winning the South Carolina 38 Independent School Association State Championship title. 39 40 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 41 Principal Christopher B. Angel and Coach Kristina Marie 42 Landrum. 43 XX
