Introductory Remarks by Jelena Marković

15th session of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Consideration of the Initial Report of the Republic of Serbia on the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Geneva, 5 and 6 April 2016

CONCLUDING REMARKS OF MRS SUZANA PAUNOVIC, DIRECTOR OF THE OFFICE FOR HUMAN AND MINORITIES’ RIGHTS HEAD OF THE DELEGATION OF THE REPUBLIC OF SERBIA

Geneva, 6 April 2016 Madam Chairwoman, Dear members of the Committee, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Thank you for the opportunity to address the Committee at the end of consideration of the report on implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in the Republic of Serbia. I would also like to thank you for the great interest you have shown in regard with measures that are implemented in order to resolve the issues and improve the position of persons with disabilities in our country.

You have posed a number of questions and our delegation has tried to respond to your queries and concerns expressed. If we have left out the answers to some of the questions, that wasn’t done intentionally. I hope we have managed to provide you with enough information and that you will now have a better picture of the situation in which the persons with disabilities in the Republic of Serbia are, than the one you had based just on reading our and other reports.

In short, we have tried to present to you our dedication and efforts to protect and ensure full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms of persons with disabilities and enhancement of our efforts to improve the status of persons with disabilities in Serbia.

In conclusion, Madam Chairwoman, I want to emphasize that the dialogue with the Committee was very important for our delegation. We will certainly devote an utmost attention and consideration to the closing remarks and we look forward to continue cooperation with the Committee.

Thank you.
