I Opening of the Meeting

1. The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m.

2. It was moved by Burns, seconded by Avenarius, and carried to approve the minutes of

II Reports and Announcements Presenter

1. Provost Announcements Patrick

The Academic Planning Council meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at 4:00 p.m. for location, please see the Academic

an item placed on the agenda, please submit it to a Senate officer. The meetings are open to the public university staff are invited to attend. The Provost signed the new degree type for the Bachelor of Fine Arts, but she Hagen

would like to see more labor statistics and job market for students in future

requests.

2. APC Chair Announcements Andrew

P Provost will attend a future meeting to review and discuss the program Pawl/ Travis

requirements she would like to see. Nelson

Academic Standards Committee (ASC) officially voted to recommend the

disbandment of the ASC and to split their duties amongst the APC and AOC.

This topic will be on a future meeting agenda for discussion.

VI New Business Presenter

1. Forensic Investigation Crime Scene and Lab Emphases [New Sub-Major Proposal] Staci

This proposal for an emphasis is trying to resolve two issues identified by two Strobl/

external reviewers; Tracking students for specific jobs after they have a Valerie

degree and helping students understand the expectations and difference of Stackman

the Criminalistics program in EMS. The expected start date would be Fall

Strobl stated currently Criminal Justice program does not have any emphases

and fifteen professionals across the state that reviewed this proposal and all

were in support. She also stated that this would be one of the few in the

United States; therefore, it would be hard to do a comparison across the

system.

Extensive discussion ensued about the number of credits being 36 (low) for a

major. Strobl explained the reasoning.

2. Agricultural Education [delinquent Form B] Travis

an item placed on the agenda, please submit it to a Senate officer. The meetings are open to the public university staff are invited to attend. The program has missed the deadline again. Extensive discussion ensued Nelson

about the consequences. It was noted that as of February 17 Agricultural

Education no longer has a program coordinator. Mark Zidon program

coordinator for Agribusiness has volunteered to complete Form B. After

further discussion about the lack of feedback to the director and department

chair, and who is responsible for enforcing the consequences the following

action was taken:

MOTION: It was moved by burns, seconded by Avenarius, and carried

unanimously to give Ag Ed program until March 31to submit the report,

providing the chairs of APC receive confirmation of the author of the report.

meeting.

Mike Compton the director of Agriculture stated that he would like to see

review of all the Agriculture programs at the same time. He also shared his

concerns about not receiving results from the review until a year after the

program has presented and reported.

3. Approval of Form B APC Reviews [Agribusiness, Technical Education, Travis

F Environmental Horticultural, Animal Science, Industrial Studies, and Reclamation] Nelson

MOTION: It was moved by Hansen, seconded by Burns, and carried

MOTION: It was moved by Hansen, seconded by Kinwa-Muzinga, and carried

unanimously to approve Reclamation as presented and checking the box

“modifying the program in form or direction.”

MOTION: It was moved by Avenarius, seconded by Pawl, and carried

unanimously to approve Technical Education report as presented which

includes a recommendation that they report back and to check box number 1.

MOTION: It was moved by Hansen, seconded by Anderson, and carried

MOTION: It was moved by Avenarius, seconded by Kinwa-Muzinga, and

carried unanimously to approve Environmental horticulture report as written.

MOTION: It was moved by Avenarius, seconded by Pawl, and carried

unanimously to delay Industrial Technology until reviewed by AOC.

4. Form B Revision

F Discussion postponed until the next meeting.
