Maintenance Person / Caretaker - Job Description
The school site maintenance / caretaker is responsible, through the Head of School and Trust Finance Manager, for a wide range of duties and responsibilities connected with the fabric and grounds of the school. The principal responsibilities are detailed below.
The duties to include the following: Security Security of the site, its buildings and facilities at all times. Reporting breaches of security. The unlocking and locking of buildings and facilities at times stipulated and ensuring fire safety doors are closed. The upkeep of locks, keys and labelling of keys.
Maintenance The upkeep of heating, lighting, water, drainage and other services including the reporting of failures or dangers. Regular tests of the fire alarm and security systems and the recording thereof. Taking regular readings of all meters. Minor repairs, maintenance and other work within the competence of the individual. Maintaining all equipment, safety equipment, implements and tools to a good and safe working order. All grounds maintenance within the school's boundaries. Upkeep of artificial/synthetic 3G pitch / play areas. Appropriate chemical control of substances used by grounds staff. The care, maintenance and security of all gardening equipment and plant. Duties in connection with evening or weekend duties as required, to include meeting and providing assistance to school hirers. To ensure that hirers are full aware of health & safety aspects.To provide assistance if needed during the hire.
Cleaning Ensuring the cleanliness of all buildings, facilities and their contents. Supervision of cleaners placed under his/her control. Liaison where necessary with the supervisors of contract cleaners. Maintaining stocks of cleaning materials. The upkeep of all waste storage areas and equipment and the disposal of waste in accordance with waste transfer certificates under regulations. General The porterage of goods, furniture, equipment and other items including errands on behalf of the school. Attendance at Health and Safety meetings and management meetings on a regular basis. Observance of and the supervision of Health and Safety requirements. Staff training where necessary. Other duties including assisting other staff and standing in for other caretaking and grounds staff during periods of absence. Assisting during school functions of lettings as required. If qualified, rendering emergency first aid to staff, pupils and visitors. Such other duties appertaining to the use of the premises as may be necessary from time to time in accordance with established local practice or with the reasonable requirements of the Head of School, and / or Head of Business.

Experience in caretaking or a related field is desirable, but not essential. Experience in dealing with contractors is desirable, but not essential.
Qualifications or Basic literacy and numeracy skills are essential. A GCE, GCSE, NVQ or similar Training: qualification is desirable. Ideally holds driving licnece with a D1 categorgy . Practical Skills: Excellent practical/DIY skills are essential. Personal Qualities & 1. Can self motivate and think for themselves. Shows initiative, needs little supervision Attributes: 2. Able to plan and organise a work routine 3. Is well-organised – can prioritise a number of jobs 4. Able to work as a member of a team 5. Can manage a team of cleaners 6.
