Dear Grade 12 Student and Parents/Guardians:

This is the fourth year we have sent home a ‘Grad Agreement’ letter to our graduates and their families. As the school works to plan grad events intended to build community among the members of the Class of 2014 and to contribute to the development of positive school culture and traditions, this letter is meant to detail the behaviour SDSS expects from all of the students in the Grad Class of 2014.

It is very important for Grads and their parents to know that all events organized and sponsored by the school must be alcohol free and drug free. This is for the safety of students. In addition, as volunteer sponsors give up their time to supervise these events, we must be respectful of the enormous responsibility they undertake. The school has the expectation that our students will behave and dress appropriately and act with good judgement at all times.

All students participating in any school-sponsored event need to be aware of the consequences if they become involved with drugs or alcohol, or any activity deemed a “prank”, whether in the school or not, that jeopardizes the safety, well-being and security of others. Consequences may include school suspension, denied participation in future grad events, including the dinner dance, if there is any such involvement. Currently planned Grad events include:  Grad Boat Cruise - Tuesday, October 8, 2013  Christmas Formal - Thursday, December 5, 2013  Valedictory Ceremony - Friday, June 20, 2014  Grad Dinner and Dance - Friday, June 27, 2014

In the past, some members of South Delta Grad classes have planned their own “Grad Activities”. These events are student planned, unsupervised and often directly interfere with learning because of missed class time. The school DOES NOT support these activities in any way. In the past, activities have included: Grad Class Ski/Snowboarding Trips; Grad Class Camping in early September/late May; “S-Trip” events (Big White, Mexico, etc.)

To provide for the safety, enjoyment, and reputation of the 2014 graduating class, students must return the attached form to the Front Office, completed by Grads and their parents, by Tuesday, October 1, 2013. These forms will be kept on file for all future school-sponsored Grad events. Participation in Grad events will not be allowed unless the form is signed and completed.

Your support is very much appreciated. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Sincerely,

Helene Gaudreault Jeff Johnstone James Johnston Principal Vice Principal Vice Principal PLEASE SIGN AND RETURN THE SECTION BELOW TO THE SCHOOL FRONT OFFICE by TUESDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2013

Students and parents are signing below indicating that they understand the school’s expectations regarding conduct at school-sponsored events, our position on what are deemed “grad pranks,” the reason behind these expectations, and the possible consequences.

To review school expectations: 1. No involvement with drugs or alcohol before or during school-sponsored events. We wish to protect students from any of the personal, school-based, or legal ramifications of making reckless decisions under the influence of alcohol or drugs. 2. No involvement in any activity deemed a “prank”, whether in the school or not, that jeopardizes the safety, well- being and security of others. A “prank” is any activity carried out by students that . Causes damage to school property or to property in the community . Incurs a financial cost to individuals, the district, or businesses in the community . Causes damage to our school’s reputation . Negatively impacts the physical or emotional well-being of Delta District students and/or staff and/or the community of Tsawwassen

Consequences may include: 1. School suspension. 2. Denied participation in future grad events, including the dinner dance.
