JOB DESCRIPTION
TRAINEE ICT TECHNICIAN
JOB FAMILY: ICT TECHNOLOGY TECHNICIAN
GRADE: Apprentice Scheme
DESCRIPTION
Practical and procedural knowledge needed across this specialist area.
Uses analytical and creative skills to interpret information and solve varied problems.
Exchanges information with students, teachers, support staff, and other technicians.
Works within recognised procedures but with the ability to use initiative. Responds independently to unexpected problems and has ready access to line manager for advice and guidance on unusual or difficult problems.
Responsible for the day-to-day safety, maintenance, and first line servicing of ICT equipment
DUTIES
Carry out installation, maintenance and first line repairs of ICT equipment.
Prepare and set up equipment as required. Ensure that ICT equipment complies with safety standards
Advice teachers, other staff and students on the use of equipment.
Provide advice and practical support to students and staff and ensure compliance with safe working practices.
Assist departments by offering repair facilities/services where possible.
Assist staff and pupils with day to day ICT queries.
Assist the Systems Manager with updating the network with software as and when required.
In the absence of the Systems Manager ensure that the curriculum and administration network is backed up each day.
Ensure physical security of all work stations and monitors.
Change staff and pupil passwords in accordance with the ICT policy.

Ensure that all printers are switched on each morning and have sufficient paper to last the day.
Photocopy and collate resources for the department.
Assist the Systems Manager as required and directed by the Headteacher.
Provide services such as those listed above to Primary Schools in the Stradbroke Pyramid of Schools on an occasional basis as required and directed by the Headteacher.

KNOWLEDGE
A willingness to undergo on the job and formal training to obtain the necessary skills and knowledge to undertake the role.
MENTAL SKILLS
Planning required to ensure that equipment/materials are available and assembled for use by teaching staff and pupils in time for start of lessons.
Ability to identify and resolve semi-routine faults either by carrying out first line repair, or by arranging for repair by specialist external contractors.
INTERPERSONAL AND COMMUNICATIONS
Ability to advise and assist staff and pupils.
Able to communicate with pupils of all abilities.
The ability to communicate technical information to pupils, staff and Governors.
PHYSICAL SKILLS
Dexterity required for setting up of equipment / apparatus or collating materials.
Ability to use keyboard and mouse accurately.
Able to use manual handling skills for lifting/moving equipment.
Able to travel between cluster schools and work in other school environments and respond to their needs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to lift, carry and transport materials and equipment within the school complex. This can include assisting with deliveries of new equipment. Assistance is available for movement of heavy items.
There may be the requirement for working in awkward/constrained conditions, e.g. crawling under tables when installing/constructing equipment.
MENTAL DEMANDS
Alertness and concentration required when working with pupils and carrying out demonstrations of equipment and processes.
The post holder needs to be able to switch between tasks where reasonable as the service demands, e.g. deal with urgent problem immediately and reprioritise other tasks as necessary, making sure commitments are still met.
EMOTIONAL DEMANDS

The post holder is likely to hold keys for the building or part of the building.
The post holder may be responsible for the dismantling and repair of sometimes expensive equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The post holder mainly works within the college complex. However, this service may be offered to the primary schools which will involve travelling to and from schools in the area.
DEVELOPMENT OF THE ROLE
The role of ICT Technician is likely to grow and develop over the next few years. With Annual Performance Management reviews and opportunities for training and career development, the role of ICT Technician role could develop
