Role Title: Properties General Maintenance Volunteer

Reports to: Maintenance Manager

Location: Pan-London / Head Office in Brixton SW9 9SP

Overall Aim

Housing for Women is looking for an energetic volunteer with a high degree of personal drive to assist DLOs (Direct Labour Operatives) to inspect, maintain and repair properties owned by the Association. The General Maintenance Volunteer will also assist the DLOs with general maintenance tasks such as plumbing, tiling, carpentry, plastering, painting and decorating for which comprehensive hands-on training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

1. To assist the DLOs arranging access to properties fort contractors and third parties as required 2. To help out with post inspections of routine maintenance repairs 3. To liaise with suitable qualified external contractors to ensure that all relevant certificates are issued where necessary. 4. To assist DLOs with minor repairs including but not limited to:  Plumbing change washers, valves, traps, WC seats, overflows  Electrical power point, broken light fittings, clean out extractor fans  Carpentry re-hang doors, re fix-skirting, fit new doors, furniture shelving  Locks change locks, hand out keys  Other Decorating tiling, mastic sealant, floor tiles 5. To help out with pre and post void repairs to ensure satisfactory performance. 6. To clear and dispose of small items of rubbish as required 7. To act in accordance with the aims of Housing for Women 8. To promote and implement Housing for Women’s Equal Opportunities Policy and other polices adopted by the Board

Availability

We are looking for someone who can spend 2 – 3 days with us for 6 – 12 months. We can be flexible with days.

Our core volunteer hours are Mon- Fri 9:00 am -5:00 pm.

Full training and induction will be provided for the role

Volunteers are entitled to travel expenses to and from the place of work (London Zones 1-6) and up to £4 towards lunch per day whilst volunteering for Housing for Women. (Please note: expenses will be reimbursed against receipts only).

If relevant to your role Housing for Women will conduct a full DBS Check if you are appointed.
