For many years, Professor Kornhauser has advocated and performed research on applying automation, network analysis, and optimal control to transit vehicles. Through his consulting firm, he and his staff pioneered the development and market acceptance of turn-by-turn GPS navigation systems. Combining these interests has resulted in Dr. Kornhauser and his students developing and testing driverless cars, and, in particular, the autonomousTaxi (aTaxi) concept which has the potential to transform mass transit and deliver ubiquitous mobility for all. He will discuss recent research on the aTaxi that his students performed using travel data for the State of New Jersey and how the concept might advance.
