April 2016 Dear Parent: Beginning in spring 2012 with the incoming 9th grade class for school year 2011- 2012, the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR™) replaced the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS). At high school grade-specific assessments were replaced with 5 end-of-course (EOC) assessments: Algebra I, biology, English I, English II, and U.S. history. STAAR, STAAR A, and STAAR L tests will be given May 2-5 as follows: Monday May 2 US History Wednesday May 4 Algebra 1 Thursday May 5 Biology

STAAR EOC testing will begin during the first hour of the school day, so it is very important that your child arrive at school on time. Each STAAR EOC test must be given on the designated day. In some situations, make-up testing may be available. Your student will be provided four hours to complete the test each day. We ask you to join with us in encouraging your child to perform up to his or her highest potential on the STAAR EOC tests. We hope you will help us by ensuring that your child comes to school with a positive attitude, well rested, and on time. Additionally, if you need to contact your child during testing, please call the office. The Student Code of Conduct prohibits the use of a cell phone, paging device, beeper, or other forms of electronic communication “during the entire school day, including passing periods and lunch” (Student Code of Conduct). Use of these devices during the STAAR test could also invalidate your child’s test (STAAR Coordinator Manual). Please call your child’s counselor if you have any questions about the STAAR EOC test.

Comenzando en la primavera del 2012 con las clases que ingresarán al 9º grado el año escolar 2011-2012, el programa de pruebas llamado Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) o pruebas STAAR, reemplazaró a las pruebas conocidas como Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS). En la escuela secundaria (high school) las evaluaciones correspondientes a cada grado fueron reemplazados con 5 evaluaciones de fin de curso o pruebas EOC (EOC, por sus siglas en inglés): Algebra I, biología, Inglés I, Inglés II, e historia de los Estados Unidos. STAAR, STAAR A, y STAAR L serán administradas del 2 al 5 de mayo de la siguiente manera:

Lunes 2 de mayo Historia de los Estados Unidos Miércoles 4 de mayo Algebra I Jueves 5 de mayo Biología

Las pruebas STAAR EOC empezarán durante la primera hora del día escolar, por lo tanto es muy importante que su niño/a llegue a la escuela a tiempo. Cada prueba del STAAR EOC debe ser administrada en la fecha designada. En algunas situaciones, puede ser posible reponer la prueba. Cada día, el alumno tendrá cuatro horas para terminar la prueba.

Le pedimos que colabore con nosotros alentando a su hijo/a a que haga su mejor esfuerzo en la prueba STAAR EOC. Le pedimos nos ayude asegurándose que su hijo/a venga a la escuela con una actitud positiva, bien descansado y a tiempo.

Además, si necesita ponerse en contacto con su niño/a durante la prueba, por favor llame a la oficina. El Código de Conducta Estudiantil prohíbe el uso de teléfonos celulares, “beepers”, u otras formas de comunicación electrónica “durante todo el día escolar, incluyendo el almuerzo y cambio de clase” (Código de Conducta Estudiantil). El uso de estos dispositivos durante la prueba STAAR también podría invalidar la prueba de su hijo/a. (Manual del Coordinador del STAAR).
