Hornet Happenings Hampton Elementary Title 1 Distinguished School January 15, 2013 Just Can’t Hide that Hornet Pride!

Student Safety is Priority #1! In light of recent events, Hornets have been “a buzz” about safety. Our superintendent, Dr. Ethan Hildreth, in a memo to our schools stated, “We will remain vigilant, today and every day, to the safety of our children and to anything that may occur outside the norm, any possible warning sign of problems or danger.” We will continue to provide a safe, caring learning environment for our students. Thank you for your cooperation in maintaining student safety!

Changes in Safety Procedures We have taken steps to make our campus more secure. You have probably noticed an increased presence of our local Hampton Police. We appreciate their on-going support. All exterior doors and all classroom doors remain locked at all times. We are making sure our staff is prepared to handle potential disruptions and keep our students safe. Student check-out procedures have been bolstered. While we regret the additional time and long lines, we appreciate your understanding.

One of our fourth grade students came to Dr. Collins and Dr. Barber before the Semester Break with a desire to sponsor a special campaign in honor of Sandyhook Elementary and Newtown, Connecticut. He presented his dream to Student Council recently. That dream has now developed into “Project 26”…26 random acts of kindness by the students of Hampton Elementary right here at home. The goal is to bond together as a student body and show our love, appreciation, and support for our community, our families, our teachers, and each other. We’ve already begun our 26 projects with our “Loaves of Love” distributed by the HES Nutrition staff after the PTO dance. Currently we’re collecting items for a local animal shelter. Look for a “Project 26” flyer in your child’s folder soon. Our goal is to build a sense of unity in our school community!
