Confidentiality Requirements for Observation/Participation/Research

CONFIDENTIALITY REQUIREMENTS FOR OBSERVATION/PARTICIPATION/RESEARCH KENT STATE UNIVERSITY CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER

Welcome to the CDC! You are a guest of the children, teachers, and families. In order to insure confidentiality for all, university students, as well as visitors, must comply with the following rules:

1) All observations are confidential information. No REAL NAMES or ROOM NUMBERS (or any other information which would make known the identity of the observed) may be used in either written or oral reports, class discussions, or informal conversations outside of the school classroom to which you have been assigned. You may use pseudonyms and the ages and gender of the children in class assignments and class discussions, providing you do so in a manner respectful of those observed.

2) Photos are strictly prohibited. An exception is made when it is part of a class assignment and the teacher, parent and director have granted permission in writing. Posting of photos or any other documentation of your observation on ANY website or other public or private communication without the consent of the school director is strictly prohibited.

3) Adherence to the policies for use of the observations booths (found on the wall in the booths) is also required.

Failure to comply with the above rules is a violation of university policy and may result in disciplinary action. Failure to adhere to these confidentiality rules may also constitute a violation of state and federal law.

I have read and agree to adhere to the above rules.
