True Fellowship With God

The word “Fellowship” is very commonly used in our Christians circle. Our fellowship is mainly between believers. What about having fellowship with God? Do we ever experience having true fellowship with God? How is it? What happen when we have fellowship with Him? What are the hindrances prohibiting us from having true fellowship with God?

“Fellowship with God” involves communion or communication, interchange, intimacy, sharing and receiving between God and men. If there is going to be fellowship with God, we must first draw on the Lord’s resources as we listen to Him in His Word, as we allow the Spirit of God to talk to us through Scripture and through the various providential events of life (trials, blessings, etc.) In our communion with the Lord, we need to listen to His voice and respond in obedience.

1. Biblical basis for fellowship with God Fellowship with God is more than just attending Church Services or praying. It is having loving obedience, intimate communion and relationship with God. In true fellowship with God the following elements must be paramount. 1. New Birth; John 3:3-7; John 1:12-13; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Titus 3:5; 1 Peter 1: 18-23. 2. Holiness; Live, a pure and holy life. 1 Peter 1:14-16; Philippians 1:11; Colossians 3:5-12. 3. Prayerfulness; Maintain a prayerful live style. Acts 6:4; 1 Thessalonica 5:17; Colossians 4:6. 4. Keep Christ at the centre of your life at all times and in all things. 1 Corinthians 10:31; Philippians1:21. 5. Living a life of complete and continuous obedience to God. Deuteronomy 26:16; Acts 5:29. 6. Respect and obey God's word at all times. Psalm119:11; Job 23:12; Psalm 19:7-10; Jeremiah 15: 16. 7. Total submission to God's will. Psalm 40:8; Ephesians 6:6; Psalm143:10. 8. Pleasing God in all things through Faith and consecrated obedience. Hebrews 11: 6; 2 Chronicles 15:15. 9. Withdrawer from sinful and worldly association. 2 Corinthians 6:14-18; 1 Thessalonica 5:22. 10. Have faith in God and in His word. Hebrews3:14; Hebrews 10: 22-23. 11. Get totally involved in evangelism. John 15:16; Romans 1:16-17; 1 Corinthians 9:16. 12. Give sacrificially to God. Give yourself first not your money. Proverbs 23:26; Romans 12:1-3.

2. Barriers and hindrances to fellowship with God Many people enjoy in having fellowship with men of worldly distinction but they have no fellowship with God. The major causes of lack of fellowship with God revolve around the followings reasons: 1. Sin. Genesis 4: 6-7; Proverbs 14: 34; John 9: 31. 2. Lust of the flesh and the pride of life. 1 John 2:15-15; James 4:1-2; 3. Broken and inconsistent relationship with the Lord. Judges 16:20; Hosea 5: 6; Revelation 2:4-5. 4. Prayerlessness. Isaiah 64:7; Daniel 9:13; James 4:2. 5. Lack of consecration and of self-denial. Luke 14: 26; 6. Absence of love for God. Revelation 2:5; 7. Fellowship with the world. James 4:4; 1 John 2:15-16. 8. Influence of false teachers and pastors. Jeremiah 50:6; Revelation 2:14-16. 9. Love for praise/glory from men than God's approval. John 12:42-43. 10. Partial obedience to God. 1 Samuel 15:20-24. 11. Lack of Faith and walking by sight. 2 Corintians 5:7. 12. Hypocrisy in worship. Matthew 15:7-9.

3. Blessedness of fellowship with God Innumerable blessings follows all those who truly maintained true fellowship with God. These blessing transcend this world and followed the faithful believer through to eternity with God. Here are some of these blessings. 1. Divine presence with the faithful believer. Psalm 140:13; 1 John 1:3. 2. Fullness of joy in God's presence. Psalm 16:11; 3. Spiritual warmness and great impression on the believer's life. Luke 24:32; Acts 4:13; 4. Divine preference. Revelation 3:20; Genesis 5:24; Revelation 3:4. 5. Nearness to God and answered prayers. Psalm 145:18; James 4:8. 6. Spiritual fruitfulness. Psalm 73:28; John 15:4-5. 7. Protection and preservation from the Lord. Genesis 28:15; Deuteronomy 20:1 8. Spiritual rest. Exodus 33:14. 9. Comfort from trials and peace in the time of trouble. Isaiah 43:2; Psalm 119:165. 10. Overcoming life. 1 John 5:4. 11. Spiritual empowerment. Luke 10:17-19; Revelation 3:25-26. 12. Eternal life for the abiding saints. Revelation 21:7; Revelation 22:14.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Let us pray, meditate, consecrate and coming into the presence of God and have a true fellowship with Him every day in our life.
