To,

Mr Prakash Javadekar,

Hon'ble Minister of HRD

Dear Sir,

I write to you to bring your kind attention to the large number of vacant seats at NITs, IIITs and GFTIs after the final round of JoSAA counselling.

You must be aware that JoSAA authorities have announced a total of 3099 seats still vacant at the prestigious engineering institutions that participated in the joint seat allotment exercise conducted by JoSAA. This means that final vacancies for the academic year 2016-17 account for as much as 13 per cent of the total seats capacity across NITs+System.

Sir, you must be agreeing that the very purpose of introducing JoSAA was to reduce seat vacancy at IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. Unfortunately, the large number of vacancies at different institutes raises doubts on the efficiency of the joint counselling process. More than 3000 vacant seats after the final round of counselling is the testimony of the failure of JoSAA in tackling seat vacancy crisis at the institutes of national interest.

Having prepared hard for an engineering seat, it is painful and distressing for students like me to know that such a large number of seats are going vacant despite lakhs of aspirants waiting in queue with their valid JEE Main rank card issued by CBSE.

I strongly feel that an unfilled seat in any of the institutions of national importance is a loss to every citizen of our country. Further, vacant seats in such institutions also deprive thousands of eligible candidates of their lifetime opportunities.

I, therefore, request you to immediately announce a spot round to fill vacant seats at NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. This will not only help thousands of engineering aspirants, but also bring credibility to our admission system.

We look forward to an immediate announcement for spot round!

Yours truly,

A JEE Main examinee
