Minutes of San Diego State University Panhellenic Association February 10th, 2013

The weekly meeting was called to order by President Sophia Huynh at 2:05 PM in Student Life and Leadership. The roll was called by Secretary Alison Schlosser.

GUESTS: The following guests were present: Marilyn from Upsilon Kappa Delta said that UKD is having a Sweethearts Auction on February 13th. The proceeds go to Monarchs school. The auction will feature baskets that range from VIP, Vegas, Spring Break, etc. and they are raffling off gift cards as well.

USFC Representative, Jenny Huerta ([email protected]) reported:  LSG’s Mr. Greek Universe February 28 at 7pm. Montezuma Hall $6 presales/ $7 at the door  STP’s Valentine Carnation Sale February 13 10-2pm on Centennial Walkway.  UKD’s Basket Auction February 13. 7pm at Scripps Cottage  RZA’s 17th Annual Gentlemen's Auction February 15. 7pm at the Gamma House on Hardy Ave.  SLB’s Eta Line Coming OWT Show February 21. 9pm at the Aztec Student Union Courtyard  NAK’s 20th Annual Gentlemen’s Auction March 1st. Doors open at 8pm, show starts at 9pm at the NAK House on Lindo Paseo. IFC Representative, ( ) reported:

The Vice President ([email protected]) Hillary Gerth reported: Sign up for the National Eating Disorder Association walk on February 22! The walk is in Mission Bay at De Anza Cove. CHeck in is at 9:30 am. Use the link below to sign up on our SDSU Panhellenic Team. Click register as member of existing team. The Secretary ([email protected]) Alison Schlosser reported: I am collecting your sister sorority contracts today! I also wanted to highlight a few things from Jordan’s Greek Weekly: - There recently was an accreditation meeting for Spring 2014. If your chapter missed it, please contact Jordan. Also, all accreditation forms can be found on the Greek Accreditation Page! - Submit an updated roster (Excel file with first, last, Red ID columns only) by Feb. 12 via email to Jordan ([email protected]) and Mark Damore (Treasurer of GLAB [email protected]). Mark will be in charge of ordering your chapter's t-shirts for Greek Week and the order is being placed next week! - Chief of Police forum Thurs. Feb. 13 1:00 pm Love Lib. Room 430/431 - 5th Annual SDSU Leadership Summit: This year's conference theme, Finding and Sustaining Your Leadership Core, will have workshops along these themes: Individual Identity Awareness, Reflecting During the Journey, Sustaining or Renewing One's Core, etc. Visit (http://go.sdsu.edu/student_affairs/sll/schedule.aspx#workshops) for more information and/or to register.

The Treasurer ([email protected]) Katherine Graham reported: Treasurer Workshop! This is a new accreditation requirement under Chapter Management! Mon. Feb. 10 12 - 1 pm Aztec Student Union, SLL There are more workshops available. Check online for those.

The Judicial Director ([email protected]) Katelin Carollo had no report.

The Chapter Programming Director ([email protected]) Jordan Masters reported: Thanks to everyone who signed up for intramurals! Basketball... I am planning a Padres Game for the Greek Community; please get an estimate of how many members from your chapters would like to go.

The Risk Management Director ([email protected]) Ashley Fleck reported: GAMMA’s first meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 26th from 6pm-8pm in the Theater of the new Student Union! Please tell your chapters to attend! Do not forget at least 20% of chapters need to come for accreditation! There will be a risk management seminar details below: - Chapters are required to send Chapter President, individual in charge of standards/judicial, individual in charge of social events, individual in charge of risk management. If responsibilities overlap and there is only 1 person that does 1 or both of these jobs, please email Jordan. -Topic will be event management: policies, procedures, best practices, etc. Please come with questions related to this topic! Fri. Feb. 14 1 - 3 pm Templo Mayor (2nd floor adjacent from SLL) Aztec Student Union

The Activities Director ([email protected]) Michelle Jackson reported: Greek Week Mixer is this Friday, February 14th in the Tula. Team Times: 12pm Blue, 1pm Green, 2pm Orange, 3pm Purple, 4pm Red. Do not forget that chapters need at least 20% participation! GLAB Fall Head Tax - $15 per Fall Active Member, NOT including Fall 13 new members) Spring Head Tax - $15 per Spring Active Member (as of March 10th) due March 10th

The Public Relations Director ([email protected]) Maya Krupa reported:  Professional Development Workshop, February 27th from 5-7pm co-hosted with IFC o Will host faculty from SDSU who were previously Greek talking about their success sto- ries and the importance of resumes, interview skills, professionalism etc. o Exclusive for Greeks only, Google Forum will be emailed out this week to Presidents and delegates (please post on FB discussion pages), FB event will be created please invite people from your chapter. Only 100 spots.  Professional Networking Workshop, Tentatively April 17th, open to community, bringing in renowned guest speakers from business world, allowing time to mingle and talk about speaker’s success story as well, More details to come.  We will be in the process of collecting pictures/videos for an “Go Greek @ SDSU” promo video so if your chapters have recent pics/videos from fundraisers, walks, etc. email them to me at sd- [email protected]  All Greek Basketball Game March 8th: (to collect video footage) and good PR for Greek commu- nity to show Aztec Pride the last basketball game want to make “Greek Takeover” bball game where everyone wears their letters so they will be featured in our promo video. Look out for FB event.

The Scholarship Director ([email protected]) Brittany Grover-Sidler reported:  irisreading.com is offering a free speed reading workshop on campus.  If any chapter members get an A on any thing school related, take a picture and post it on our Panhellenic Facebook page. We are having a raffle at the end of each month. Study Tips:  If you’re in a difficult class see if that subject has free tutoring offered from that college. Most of the Colleges on campus have free tutors that students can get help from on everyday of the week. Some of those subjects being: Chemistry, Spanish and Portugal, Physics, English, and many more!  Go into your professors office hours regularly even if you don’t need help. It will help you out when grades are due at the end of the semester and they will be more likely to write a letter of rec for you for jobs/ graduate school. Order of Omega:  Applications are on the Panhellenic Website and are due by March 7th!  Must have a total of 60 units, 3.0 GPA, and attended SDSU for the past 2 semesters to be eligible for this prestigious organization. Encourage your members to apply!! Scholarship Directors:  If you have your scholarship directors contact and email information please give that to me at the end of meeting. If you don’t have that info yet please bring it by next week or email it to me! Scholarship Awards:  Grade reports are finally in so please send me a list of the girls in your chapter who have the top GPA’s so I can issue them their checks! Faculty Appreciation:  Let me know if you have any suggestions for who we should nominate for this months first ever Panhellenic Teacher Appreciation Award. Asking your chapter members is encouraged so feel free to ask for your chapters input too!

Congratulations to these organizations who achieved highest GPAs in the community! Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority (3.420), Alpha Pi Sigma Sorority (3.393), Alpha Phi Sorority (3.231), Pi Beta Phi Sorori- ty (3.173), and Alpha Chi Omega Sorority with the highest earning GPAs overall!

***Also a lot of you have been emailing me which I absolutel LOVE, but it’s hard to keep track which chapter everyone is from so PLEASE include your chapters name in the email. Thanksssss! :)

The AS Liaison ([email protected]) Abby Kim reported:  AS Election applications are due this Thursday, February 13th. You can find them in the AS of- fice on the third floor of the Union.  New positions available for this semester!!! Applications are also in the AS office, and they are due on February 17th at 4pm. o Campus Life Council Student at Large Representative o University Council College of Arts and Letters Representative o University Council College of Sciences Representative o University Council Undeclared Representative o University Council Graduate Student Association Representative o Judicial Affairs Council Justice  Student Success Fee  Aztecs Unite Day at the Union with Greek participation for Dedication week.  Please send me a list of the girls in your chapter involved in AS no later than 4pm today!!!!

The Recruitment Director ([email protected]) Laura Garcia reported: - The Greek Fair was successful! Over 300 potential new members came to check out the Greek Community. If you know of a member who wanted to participate in recruitment, but did not attend this event, I can forward you a form to have them fill out! - Bid lists are also due to Jordan: email the list of PNMs your chapter is interested in extending a bid to as soon as you have the list.

The Assistant Recruitment Director ([email protected]) Jerika Tidwell reported:  Keep encouraging your girls to fill out Rho Chi applications!

Alpha Phi ([email protected]): We are tabling for Valentine’s Day on Campanile walkway from 11-2 on Wednesday and Thursday. It will benefit our philanthropy for cardiac health. Delta Gamma ([email protected]): We have bid day today at 4PM. We have 8 new members! Delta Zeta ([email protected]): We are tabling on Friday from 11-2 Valentine grams for fun!
