Free Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR) Gatekeeper Trainings for Suicide Prevention Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR) Gatekeeper Trainings for Suicide Prevention now available in San Diego County. QPR is designed to give members of the general public the basic skills necessary to recognize a crisis and the warning signs that someone may be contemplating suicide. QPR is like CPR - an emergency mental health intervention for suicidal persons. The QPR Gatekeeper Trainings are funded by the County of San Diego HHSA, and offered at no cost to attendees on behalf of the San Diego County Suicide Prevention Council. Details: As a QPR-trained Gatekeeper, you will learn to: Recognize warning signs of suicide Know how to offer hope Know how to get help and save a life Audience: Anyone in a position to recognize a crisis and the warning signs that someone may be contemplating suicide: parents, friends, neighbors, teachers, ministers, doctors, nurses, office supervisors, caseworkers, firefighters, and many others. Lemon Grove HEAL Zone’s Inaugural Resident Leadership Academy (RLA) Graduation-Thursday, July 18 th , from 6:00pm-8:00pm
We are asking for everyone who has interest in helping to support making more improvements in Lemon Grove and who have supported the Resident Leadership Academy (RLA) participants, to please be in attendance at this very important presentation and showcase. We will be reviewing the Lemon Grove RLA Cohort #2 community improvement projects, and spending time networking with the community leaders and making connections.

Top of Page Housing Needed for Two Emerson Hunger Fellows Community Health Improvement Partners (CHIP) and the San Diego Hunger Coalition (SDHC) are proud to announce they have been selected to host two Emerson National Hunger Fellows this fall!
These two young women will come to us as part of the Emerson National Hunger Fellows Program, a highly-competitive leadership development program that educates and empowers recent college graduates to combat hunger and poverty in the United States.
We are looking for donated housing for both fellows (living separately or together) from August 31, 2013 – February 12, 2014. Accommodations may include: Host homes (i.e., Fellows staying with a family in its private residence), Furnished apartment or extended-stay hotel, Quarters for visiting staff/faculty (e.g., hospital quarters for traveling nurses, university housing for visiting professors), Housing for students of local colleges and universities, Housing attached to or owned by churches, community-based organizations, or civic/service organizations.
Could you host one or both Fellows this fall? Could you please share this request with your networks?

Top of Page Veterans Medical Research Foundation : Full-Time Research Coordinator Position We are seeking one full-time research coordinator to coordinate grant execution of a clinical trial for the treatment of complicated grief (prolonged intense grief after the death of a loved one), including recruitment, assessment, enrollment, scheduling, and monitoring of participants. Webinar: Emerging Drug Trends: Beyond Synthetics & Bath Salts – Live 7/24 Join this free continuing education webinar and get a brief review of the current trends associated with the synthetic drugs known as “Bath Salts” and the “Synthetic Cannabinoids.” The focus will be on introducing and discussing newer emerging substances, some of which are being promoted as alternatives to K2/Spice and Bath Salts.
Some of the trends to be discussed include the increase in usage of Kratom, an unregulated leaf, and the re-emergence of hallucinogens such as DMT and 2 C1, as well as other compounds emerging from chemists in Europe. Save the Date for CHA’s Behavioral Health Care Symposium CHA’s annual Behavioral Health Care Symposium will be held December 9-10 in Huntington Beach. Save the date and plan to attend this specialized symposium tailored to the unique needs of hospital behavioral care providers. Held at Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort in Huntington Beach, the event spans one-and-a-half days, with the first half-day devoted to managing patients with behavioral and co-morbid health issues in the emergency department setting.
