Prerequisite: Successful completion of Math N008 Text: Elementary Algebra: by Bittinger/ Ellenbogen, 7th edition Calculator: A scientific calculator. Cellular phones are not to be used as calculators for quizzes or exams. Office Hours: I don't have any official office hours, but I can be available before or after the class by appointment.

Important Dates

The last day to drop with refund is Sep 7th. The last day to drop without a “W” is Sep 21th. The last day to drop with a “W “ is Nov 16th. The last day for cr/ncr option is Sep 28th. Check the above dates to be sure.

Attendance and Participation

 Please be in class at 11:10.  Attendance is taken every day. You need to remain in the class till the end to be considered “present”.  Two tardy or leaving early is considered as an absence.  The instructor can drop you from this course if you have excessive absences.  If you feel that you need to withdraw from the course, it is always your responsibility to do so. Failure to do so may result in an “F” for the course.  Keep your private conversation with your classmates (Chit Chat) for outside the classroom. Too much talking and disrupting behavior are not acceptable in the classroom.

Homework

You have homework assignments regularly, and most of the homework assignments need to be done online through MyMathLab. The course ID for your enrollment in MyMathLab is khakbazan87163. Late homework will not be accepted.

Quizzes

There are two types of quizzes. Regular online quizzes through MyMathLab, and pop-up class quizzes.

Exams

There will be four exams and a comprehensive final. There will be no make-up exams. Approximate Grading

90.100 A 80.89 B 70.79 C 60.69 D 0.59 F The grades are based on achievement, not competition, and therefore are not “curved”.

Academic Integrity

The Department of Mathematics assumes that each student follows institutional policy regarding academic integrity. Any student involved in plagiarism, coping or any other form of academic dishonesty may fail the course and may receive a ZERO and further disciplinary action from the institution as per procedures for dealing with such incidents. Exam Rule No looking at another students’ desk or paper. No sharing supplies. No talking. No using cell phones.

How to succeed in this course

 Attend every class on time and do not leave class early.  Don’t be shy to ask your questions. Don’t wait for the last day of the class!  Read the sections prior to the lecture, and reread it after the lecture.  Do your homework regularly. Once you have completed the homework assignment, read over the sections again and review the problems that you just have completed.  Get help from your classmates. Get together with a few peers for at least one study session each week to review each other’s homework problems and give practice questions to one another. Get to know at least three of your classmates, and get their phone numbers.  You need to spend at least 15 hours per week, outside of class, studying for this course.

Tutorial Center and Math Lab

Math Lab-Location: To be announced. A place for studying, free drop-in tutoring, videos and computer tutorials. Tutorial Center-Located in the west wing of the Special Services Building. Since this place is very popular, you need to make an appointment to get free individual tutoring. (714) 564-5559 or 432-5538 Tentative Schedule
