Love was manager for twenty-six years, was 30 succeeded in 1963 by Samuel L. Boylston, an attorney and former 31 member of the House of Representatives from Orangeburg 32 County, and after his retirement was succeeded by J. Richards 33 Todd in 1988 where he remains the president and chief executive 34 officer; and 35 36 Whereas, the association has grown from a few trucking 37 companies in the 1930’s to seven hundred thirty trucking 38 companies in 2008 and has been a valuable source of information 39 and statistics pertaining to trucking; and 40 41 WHEREAS, the association has published Hi-Lights of South 42 Carolina Trucking including its popular Exhaust column, since

1 [5179] 1 1 1937, along with many other periodicals and information 2 documents that have served as an invaluable resource for educating 3 the public on the contributions of the trucking industry; and 4 5 Whereas, South Carolina trucking has grown from ten trucks in 6 1907 to over one hundred thousand in 2008 and pays over six 7 hundred thirty-seven million dollars annually in state and federal 8 highway user taxes and fees; and 9 10 Whereas, trucks serve all areas of South Carolina and are the only 11 transportation for over eighty percent of South Carolina 12 communities and play a major role in transportation import and 13 export movement from South Carolina ports; and 14 15 Whereas, with one of every eleven citizens in South Carolina 16 involved in the transportation industry, trucking has made major 17 contributions to the economic growth and development of the 18 State; and 19 20 Whereas, the association’s board of directors has been composed 21 of successful and public-spirited business leaders from throughout 22 the State, which has blessed the association over the years with 23 outstanding leadership; and 24 25 Whereas, the following former dedicated leaders have been 26 designated as Directors Emeritus: Mr. X. O. Bunch, Jr., of 27 Charleston, Mr. Robert Beatty of Columbia, Mr. R. D. Moseley of 28 Charleston, Mr. W. T. Cassels, Jr., of Columbia, Mr. Charlie Tapp 29 of Duncan, Mr. Pat Carey of Rock Hill, Mr. Clinton Lemon of 30 Barnwell, Mr. Richard Few of Johns Island, Mr. Roy Dooley of 31 Greer, Mr. Richard Infinger of Charleston, Mr. Arden Lemon of 32 Charleston, Mr. Joey Moore of Manning, Mr. Tommy Glasscock 33 of Sumter, Mr. Angus Senn of Silverstreet, and Mr. Grady 34 Randolph of Gaffney; and 35 36 Whereas, association Chairman of the Board Ken Willingham of 37 Charleston has been a most active and engaged leader, who is well 38 recognized and respected by many members of the South Carolina 39 General Assembly; and 40 41 Whereas, under the leadership of President and Chief Executive 42 Officer J. Richards Todd and the current professional staff of G. 43 M. “Scott” Murray, Vice President of Safety and Compliance;

Landrith, Manager of 4 Administration; and, Jennifer Patterson, Intern, the South Carolina 5 Trucking Association has developed many friendships among the 6 membership, related industries, organizations and members of the 7 General Assembly, and state and federal government agencies; and 8 9 Whereas, the association is well respected and has been very 10 successful in its efforts to improve highway safety and the 11 efficiency of trucking in South Carolina. Now, therefore, 12 13 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 14 15 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 16 by this resolution, recognize the many contributions to the 17 well-being of the State of South Carolina by the South Carolina 18 Trucking Association as it celebrates its seventy-fifth anniversary 19 in 2008. 20 21 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 22 Ken Willingham, chairman of the board and J.
