Discussion. Senator Briggs asked if there is movement to choose new students to positions as well as those with experience. Senator Briggs asked how many applicants applied for this position. President Knight couldn’t give exact numbers. They ran two calls for applications; one last spring, one this fall. They appointed only in the second round. Vote. MOTION CARRIED. The committee met with Ryan Marcum who was submitted as election deputy. MOVE TO APPROVE RYAN MARCUM AS ELECTION COMMISSION DEPUTY. Liddle/Sonnen. Unanimous. Objection. Discussion. Previous. Vote. MOTION CARRIED.

Finance Committee—Senator Jahnke. There are seven matched deposit requests and one new club funding request. MOVE TO APPROVE REQUESTS. Jahnke/Woodhouse. Unanimous. MOTION CARRIED.

Academic Standards Council—Senator Sonnen. The Council met last Wednesday and went over review and dismissal procedures. There will be a change to how students are dismissed. Three warnings; the first time they will be reduced to twelve credits, the second time reduced to nine credits, the third time reduced to six credits, then dismissed. Senator Gower asked why students are being dismissed from the university. It is for poor GPA (academic performance). For incoming freshmen the GPA is 1.75, above freshman standing it is 2.0. Senator Mangan asked about students who have to take certain classes during certain semesters. The council took that into consideration. There are many people affected in that way. They felt this was best.

GALLERY QUESTION & ANSWER

ANNOUNCEMENTS AND CORRESPONDENCE 1. Senator Summers spoke with Diana Lamb, who is on the Student Activities Board. On October 28, Wednesday, at 6:00pm, SAB is holding a Bootacular. It’s a big family night event open to ISU and the community. It’s a huge Halloween party. Many volunteers are needed for this event. Diana asked that senators volunteer if they’re available. It’s a great opportunity to get senators out there and support SAB events. There are many activities.

OLD BUSINESS 1. Bill 335 MOVE TO UNTABLE BILL 335. Liddle/Allbright. Objection. Discussion. Senator Briggs said it would be best to leave it tabled until they get the report from the registrar rather than going through the motions twice. Vote. Division. 7 yes, 12 no. MOTION FAILED.

NEW BUSINESS 1. Senator Summers would like to bring up the Special Projects committee to discuss what they want the committee to be; whether it should work within ASISU with service projects, events, etc., for the Finance Committee. Want to know if the Finance Committee should allocate money to the committee. As a Senate, what should Special Projects be? MOVE TO COMMITTEE AS A WHOLE. Summers/Briggs. Vote. MOTION CARRIED. Discussion about purpose of Special Project committee and whether they need funding. MOVE TO MOVE OUT OF COMMITTEE. Woodhouse/Liddle. Vote. Division. 10 yes, 8 no, 1 abstention. MOTION CARRIED. MOVE TO FUND THE SPECIAL PROJECTS COMMITTEE WITH A DOLLAR. MOVE TO RECESS. Liddle/Jahnke. MOTION CARRIED. Recess at 7:36pm. Meeting called back to order at 7:37pm. MOVE TO DISCUSS THE ISSUE. Briggs/Bullock. Unanimous. MOTION CARRIED. Senator Briggs said this is a big issue; about what they are actually going to achieve this year. Everyone should be involved. If they don’t have time, they need to admit it. When the Senate decides to do something, there should be some entity to resolve that issue. Senator Bullock recommended keeping the committee and allotting around $300. There should be students in the gallery. If they can promote that, they should do it through Special Projects. Write a resolution that they fund it and keep it. Senator Summers reminded the Senate that whatever is decided, it will go into effect next year. This year is already determined. Senator Bloxham said $300 wouldn’t be enough to continue having a Special Projects committee, based on the expenses so far. Senator Woodhouse said money doesn’t grow on trees. If they allocate money, it will be taken from another program. I.F. VP Mortimer said the committee is a good thing and there is a spot within ASISU for it; the Angel tree, service projects like the blood drive. With that, the Student Activities Board is the medium for events. That’s where the money is put into for events for students. If you want an event, get with the Student Activities Board coordinator. Decide what Special Projects is used for. He felt it should be for service. Financing it as a special line item isn’t necessary. Senator Pond said the problem they are confronting is what the committee does, not anything about money. As far as defining what Special Projects does, Senator Jahnke said that, in the past, Special Projects has done service, helped plan the Christmas party. Small things that aren’t necessarily expensive, but they unify the Senate. They had a bonfire for senators; Tanner planned a costume party for one of the Senate meetings. MOVE TO END DISCUSSION. Briggs/Jahnke. Unanimous. MOTION CARRIED.

ADJOURNMENT MOVE TO ADJOURN. Allbright/Summers. ASISU Secretary took roll. All senators were present, except Senator Frugoli. Unanimous. MOTION CARRIED. Meeting adjourned at 7:47pm.
