Transcript of Geoff Brown video about the library and one stop shop review consultation.

For anybody that doesn’t know me, my name’s Geoff Brown and I’m the Cabinet Member for Cornwall Council for Communities.

I wanted to take the opportunity today to talk to you about the review that we’re holding into the library and one stop shop service. As you know over the last four years we’ve had significant financial challenges. We’ve managed to achieve savings of £176 million pounds but in the next four years we’re going to be faced with making even more savings - £196 million, without the benefit this time of amalgamating six authorities into the unitary which we now have as Cornwall Council.

This has impacted on all the services and with the library and one stop shop services, our aim to save £1.8 million pounds over the next four years from a budget of £4 million – a significant challenge you can imagine.

We’re in the process of opening a consultation with all of the community; we want to listen to all the community, parish councils, stakeholders and any other organisations that want to work with us to try and improve delivery of the service of the library and one stops shops.

We’ve already made significant changes; we’ve amalgamated some one stop shops into libraries, we’ve introduced self-service systems to free our staff up to spend more time with customers and we are looking at any other opportunities to develop the system further and that’s where you come in.

We want your help with the consultation which start on 1 April and will run for ten weeks. There are numerous ways that you can get involved, and those will be shown at the end of this short presentation. We look forward to hearing your ideas, your solutions and any concerns you have and they’ll all be taken into consideration before we make any final decisions on the way forward with the library service.

Like Cornwall Council and the very dedicated, committed staff we have in that service, I’m committed to delivering the most efficient, wide reaching service that we can possibly imagine for all of the residents of Cornwall and we look forward to your support in trying to achieve this.
