CACERES’ CLASSROOM PROCEDURES

A procedure is a particular course of action intended to achieve a result or a particular way of accomplishing an objective. We have procedures in science so that our class runs smoothly and safely.

Start of Class Procedure 1. Come into the classroom orderly and sit in your assigned seat. 2. Put all materials except what you will use for the class day under your table. 3. Open your planner and copy the daily agenda. This will be written on the white board. 4. Follow the instructions for the Journal assignment. 5. If an assignment is due, turn it in the assignment tray.

End of Class Procedure 1. Begin to clean up and put materials away after instructed to do so. 2. Put all supplies, materials, and equipment back in the appropriate place. 3. Clean up any trash, even if you did make the mess. 4. Instructor will dismiss you, NOT the bell. 5. Push your chair in under the table. Last class of the day stacks chair on tables.

Handing in Assignments Procedure 1. Assignments will be turned in to the assignment tray in the basket with your period labeled. 2. The proper heading must be on all assignments. 3. Cut off edges if paper is taken from a spiral.

Borrowing Materials, Supplies, & Equipment Procedure 1. Supplies that you may use are on the counter by the door. 2. Materials on the teacher’s desk are OFF LIMITS to students. 3. If using supplies, do so before class begins, or wait until teacher is not instructing. 4. Lab supplies need to be inventoried and returned properly.

Lab Safety Procedure 1. Safety procedures may vary from day to day depending on the activities. Notice special instructions on the white board. 2. Follow safety guidelines in the safety contract. 3. Failure to follow safety guidelines will result in loss of opportunity to participate in the lab.

Computer Lab Procedure 1. Walk quietly to the lab with the class. 2. Sit in your assigned seat in the lab. 3. NO settings may be changed on the computers.

Individual Work Procedure 1. During individual work, students will work without talking and work independently.

Group Work Procedure 1. QUIET talking is allowed during group work. 2. If supplies are needed, materials manager will get supplies. Only one person from each group is allowed out of their seats at a time.

Leaving the Classroom during Class Procedure 1. Wait until the teacher is not instructing to ask to go to the nurse. Do not interrupt someone speaking by getting up to ask. 2. If it is an EMERGECY, ask immediately, or if you do not have time to ask, go to the restroom. 3. Restroom passes are given in an emergency. 4. Do not interrupt instructions, class discussions or student questions to ask to leave the room.

Talking and Asking Questions Procedure 1. Whenever another person is talking, you should be listening. 2. Raise your hand to speak. Wait to be called upon. 3. Never interrupt someone while they are speaking. 4. Quiet talking is allowed during group work. 5. If you have a question during a lab, the principal investigator may ask the question. Please be patient as students outnumber the teacher. Try to problem solve within your lab group. Sharpening Pencils Procedure 1. Be prepared before the bell rings for class to begin. 2. Never sharpen your pencil while someone is talking. Doing so is inconsiderate and bad manners. 3. Sharpen only #2 lead pencils in the electric sharpener. 4. Unplug sharpener before cleaning. 5. Report abuse to the teacher.

Make-Up Work Procedure 1. Make up work is the responsibility of the student. 2. Copy assignment missed located on the assignment calendar on the front bulletin board. 3. Check the “Absent Work” folder for any handout that was passed out. Just because there is no handout does NOT mean you have no assignment! 4. Check Classroom Journal for journal question and notes. 5. If you have any questions, ask after class or come to a tutorial for help!
