Use the Distributive Property to Solve

Distributive property: Multiplying a sum by a number is the same as multiplying each addend in the sum by the same number and then adding the products. *The word “distribute” means “to give out”

Factoring: Using the Distributive Property in reverse, by dividing the addends by a common factor, to write rewrite a sum of two terms as a product

Associative property: Means that the grouping does not make any difference. Commutative property does not work for subtraction or division. Example: (a +b) + c= a + (b +c) Example: (ab)c= a (bc)

Factor out the GCF and re-write each expression using parenthesis. Example: 6 +15

Step 1: Find GCF of 6 and 15 Step 2: Divide each number by GCF

6/ 3 (gcf) = 2

15/3 (gcf) = 5

Answer: 3 ( 2 +5)
