Today in the meeting the following items were discussed: STAAR Family Night, Early Dismissal, Testing, tutorials and Saturday Tutorials, and After School Program.
Item 1: Two weeks ago JP Henderson held STAAR Family Night in the area of Reading. We had over 265 parents RSVP. We talked to the Parents about the importance of STAAR, strategies to help their child in the areas of Reading. We gave incentives in a drawing which were gift cards and two tablets. The meeting was open to all third through fifth grade. Tonight we are holding Part two of the STAAR Family Night in the Area of Math. We will provide the Parents with strategies to help in the area of math and guide them through the standards that will be tested. We will have dinner as well as incentives. We will offer the top grade level an ice cream party for attendance in the STAAR Family Night in order to boost participation.
Item 2: The next Early Dismissal is scheduled for February 22, 2017. That day will be professional development for the teachers and staff. We will have Mr. Villarreal attend the meeting and provide information to the teachers about STAAR, STAAR Data, and any new information that will help our teachers to better understand what is being tested.
Item 3: Tutorials is being held now for grades first through fifth in the areas of reading and math. In December, teachers we to reevaluate their students and resubmit their list of students that will need to come to tutorials for January. Teachers in grades third through fifth were asked to complete the same after the DLA (District Level Assessments) were given. Mrs. Barrientos send out a survey to all teachers about Saturday tutorials in order to see who is interested in doing Saturday tutorials as of February. If only a few then cost wise it would not be effective. She then would start Saturday tutorials in April versus February.
Item 4: The After School Program is still continuing. Students were reminded that attendance is very important and must show up for the remaining semester. Some students have dropped due to parents removing them, students grades dropped, students are in tutorials, and others due other reasons. However, the program is still continuing for the Spring Semester.
Closures: The Assist Principal stated any questions or concerns. Mrs. Marroquin had a question about the lunch menus not being passed out. Mrs. Florez stated she would ask Mrs. Ortiz the cafeteria manager. No one else had any questions. If anyone has any items that they would want to be on the agenda please email the principal with any ideas. Thank you for your time and attendance. Meeting was adjourned at 4:30 p.m.
