African American Scientist/ Inventors Project

Instructions- Research one of the following Scientists or inventors from schoolnotes. Spend a little time looking at my site along with various sites to decide which African-American you are most interested in.

Step 1-You will need to gather the following information.

1. When was the inventor/scientist born? 2. Where did/do they live? 3. What did they invent? Or what was their most important accomplishment? 4. What inspired them to do what they did? 5. How would you describe this person? 6. Were there any obstacles he/she had to overcome? 7. If you could meet this person what question would you ask him/her? 8. What is the achievement(s) for which he/she is best known? 9. The part of this person’s life you admire the most, and why. 10. How our lives have changed as a result of their accomplishment/invention. 11. Is their invention being used today? Explain? 12. How could you improve their invention(s)? 13. Pictures of your scientist/inventor along with an illustration of their invention. 14. List the correct websites used. Note: www.yahoo.com is not a website but simply a search engine.

Guidelines: Do not copy; use your own words or paraphrase. Keep track of your sources. If you want to use a direct quote, be sure to identify the specific source. You may use classroom and library books in addition to the web sites listed as sources.

Step 2-Once you gather the information for your project, please type or handwrite the project neatly. Please feel free to re-state the questions if needed. Include references or websites used.

Step 3- Presentation Time! You will pretend to be the person you have researched as you present. All presentation must be 3-5 minutes. Present in the first person. Key points will be placed on index cards. You will not be allowed to read from any paper. Professional dress attire (ex; shirt, tie, dress and etc). No jeans or sneakers. You are graded on the following: How well you know your content, Examples of the invention, Creativity during presentation, Dress Attire and Voice Tones/Reflections.
