Grading

Grades will be awarded primarily on the basis of an in-class final, but attendance and participation—while not required unless there is a guest speaker—may be considered in determining your course grade. Since there will be several in-class exercises throughout the semester, regular attendance is strongly encouraged.

SofTest may be used for the final.

1 In lieu of the final, you may write a substantive research paper of no less than 20 pages (double spaced, with 12 point font and 1 inch margins, not including the cover page). If you elect to do this, you must submit a topic by the third week of class, an outline by the sixth, and a draft by the twelfth.
