1 Mike Snowden welcomed members to the meeting. All sixteen GP practices in Exeter have joined the company, covering a hundred family doctors. Liz Deasy is the chief executive. Dr Sally Ewings is the medical lead. Liz Deasy said the benefit to patients is that our practice can bid through the company for NHS work which is competitively tendered by New Devon clinical commissioning group. In addition the company can bid for enhanced contracts let by NHS England. Under the Prime Minister’s challenge fund, Exeter Primary Care Ltd has been awarded a contract to provide general practice services to patients in the city for sixteen week- ends, starting in January 2015. This development was welcomed by the PPG. Discussions were taking place to encourage practices to find ways of supporting services for vulnerable groups, for example through self-help groups linked to surgeries. Liz Deasy said she would keep the PPG informed of new developments. 4 CQC inspection outcomes. Liz PPG to be informed by Barnfield Hill surgery had been inspected by the Deasy practice when the full CQC care quality commission earlier in the autumn as report on Barnfield Hill surgery part of a nationwide review. Three members of the is published. PPG had been interviewed by the inspectors as part of the process. All practices nationally had been inspected and the results announced in mid- November. Liz Deasy reported that Barnfield Hill surgery had received a positive inspection report. The detailed report would be posted on the CQC website in due course for patients to read. One development required by the CQC is that the practice website should include a section on patient complaints arising from the practice. The chair said he and Liz Deasy had met and suggested that the launch event could focus on encouraging specific groups of patients with particular issues and conditions to be indemnified and supported. Ideas cited for possible groups are: type 2 diabetes; smoking cessation; asthma; mental health issues. 7 Surgery-related discussion: All Liz Deasy reported that patients from the practice moving to the new village of Cranbrook, southeast of Exeter, were facing issues regarding the provision of their family doctor services. No clear plan had been developed for family doctor services to serve the new development of houses. Patients were being required to travel back to their former GP practices for consultations. PPG members felt this was unsatisfactory and urged NHS England to step in to make better provision for families in Cranbrook. 8 Dates of future meetings: 15 January 2015; 5 All March 2015, 7pm, Barnfield Hill surgery.
