The Ottoman Empire: The “Sick Man” of Europe

Draw a picture of how you imagine the “Sick Man” of Europe (AKA the dying Ottoman Empire).

Try to address all of the following questions in your picture.  How sick is the “sick man”?  What made him “sick”? What is the “sickness”?  What was the result of his sickness? What happened to him because of it?

Consider these pieces of advice as you draw.  The “sick man” does not have to be a human person. For example, the “sick man” could be a country, an inanimate object, or a symbol.  Include symbols and/or pictures to represent symptoms, or signs, of the “sick man”.  You could draw 1 big portrait or a short 4 box cartoon strip (use the PowerPoint as a guide).  You can use labeling (words) to make your symbols clearer to the reader.
