An ongoing assessment by the Graduate Faculty in the Department of Addictions and Rehabilitation Studies, as required by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Program (CACREP) standards, found the inclusion of an understanding of current topical and political issues in counseling and how those issues affect the daily work of counselors and the counseling profession (GI5, p. 57) and the knowledge of and ability to create and implement program evaluation (E.4, p. 56; F.6, p. 57) content to be needed. The relevant CACREP Standards (CACREP Manual, 2009; Retrieved on 9-3-2013 from http://www.cacrep.org/doc/2009%20Standards%20with %20cover.pdf) will be addressed.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to 1. Examine the conduct of research in organizations including organizational access; 2. Evaluate current issues that drive or restrain the design of counseling programs to practice; 3. Create a process to design a counseling program that includes problem analysis, design of the program, calculation of costs and values, and program evaluation; 4. Compare and contrast different types of designs and evaluations used in counseling programs; 5. Critique the development of counseling programs using an effectiveness-based approach; and 6. Debate the professional, ethical, cultural, and legal issues affecting the theory and design of counseling programs.
