STATE BOARD OF STATIONARY ENGINEES

BUSINESS MEETING

DATE: January 19, 2010

TIME: 10:00 a.m.

PLACE: 500 N. Calvert Street 3rd Floor Conference Room Baltimore, Maryland 21202-3651

PRESENT: George Maloney, Chairman, Industry Member Harold Norris, Vice Chairman, Consumer Member Gregory Restivo, Senior Industry Member Karl Kraft, Chief Boiler Inspector, Board Member Kevin McLeod, Industry Member

ABSENT: Loretta Johnson, Consumer Member Andrew Howard, Industry Member

OTHERS PRESENT: Steven Smitson, Assistant Commissioner, Occupational and Professional Licensing Sloane Fried Kinstler, Assistant Attorney General Gae Herzberger, Administrative Aide Gregory Denevan, IAP Engineer Donald Maloney, W.L. Gore & Associates

CALL TO ORDER:

Mr. Maloney called the Stationary Engineer’s business meeting to order at 10:00 a.m.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:

Motion (I) was made by Mr. Norris, seconded by Mr. McLeod and unanimously carried by the Board to approve the minutes of the December 15, 2009, minutes with corrections. Motion (II) was made by Mr. Norris, seconded by Mr. McLeod and unanimously carried by the Board to approve the minutes of the Executive Session as written.

COMPLAINTS:

The Complaint Committee had no complaints to be reviewed. 2

OLD BUSINESS:

Mr. Smitson advised the Board that he has contacted PSI Examination Services regarding asking voluntary question stating which classes they attended and the study material before taking their examination. Mr. Smitson stated he will invite PSI representatives to the March meeting to review the application process.

NEW BUSINESS:

The Board reviewed 4 correspondence letters regarding training programs, types of equipment and the computerized monitoring system. The Board has requested staff to respond to the correspondence letters.

STATISTICS:

Mr. Maloney reviewed with the members the statistics submitted by PSI on the accumulative statistics for the pass and fail rates as well as the number of repeat examinees. The Board is requesting PSI to submit a list of candidates and their current status.

COUNSEL’S REPORT:

No Report

CHAIRMAN’S REPORT:

Mr. Maloney shared with the Board information regarding Michigan’s status on employment for stationary engineers and Virginia and New Jersey BRAC candidates.

BOARD MEMBERS REMARKS:

Mr. Norris shared with the Board the Local 99 Newsletter regarding Mr. Maloney’s achievements. Congratulations Mr. Maloney.

EXECUTIVE SESSION:

Motion (II) was made by Mr. McLeod, seconded by Mr. Norris and unanimously carried by the State Board of Stationary Engineers to go into Executive Session at 11:05 a.m., in the 3rd Floor Conference Room, 500 N. Calvert Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21202-3651. This meeting was permitted to be closed pursuant to State Government Article, Annotated Code of Maryland § 10-508 (a) (8). The purpose of the session was to consult with Counsel concerning material pertaining to applicants for licensure. Motion (III) was made by Mr. Norris, seconded by Mr. McLeod and unanimously carried by the Board to return to the public meeting.

Motion (IV) was made by Mr. Norris, seconded by Mr. McLeod and unanimously carried by the Board to accept the findings in the executive session.

APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED BY PSI:

The Board approved 4 applications to take the 1st grade stationary engineer’s license examination.

The Board approved 3 applications to take the 3rd grade stationary engineer’s license examination.

The Board approved 2 application2 to take the 4th grade stationary engineer’s license examination.

The Board approved 2 applications to take the 5th grade stationary engineer’s license examination.

The Board placed in pending 3 applications for additional information in reference to work experience.

ADJOURNMENT:

Motion (V) was made by Mr. Restivo, seconded by Mr. Norris and unanimously carried by the Board to adjourn the meeting at 11:20 a.m.
