Book Report Options

Option #1: Book Jacket You will create a book jacket that includes the following: author and title and illustration (front cover), either/or an author’s biography, other books by the author, or positive quotes about the book by famous people who have read it (back cover), and a detailed summary (inside front and back flap). (See attached instructions.) Option #2: Script/Interview Interview a character from your book. Write at least 10 well-developed questions and answers that will give the character the opportunity to discuss his/her thoughts and feelings about his/her role in the story. Option #3: Letter You may either write a one-page letter to a friend persuading him/her to read your book, or you may write a one- page letter to the main character of your book asking questions, protesting a situation, and/or making a complaint or a suggestion. Option #4: Comic Book Create a comic book that includes all FOUR elements of Freytag’s Pyramid (exposition, rising action, climax, and denouement. Your comic book should have a minimum of 10 frames. Option #5: Compare/Contrast Essay Write a one page essay in which you either (1) compare and contrast two characters in the story or (2) compare/contrast a character in the story to yourself. Option #6: Prediction Essay Write a one page essay in which you describe the character’s life 20 years from now. Option #7: Multiple Choice Quiz Write a quiz over the book. Write 10 questions which must include 4 answer choices (A,B,C,D). Write one essay question about a literary elements found in your book. You must also make an answer key for both the multiple choice questions and the essay question.. Book Report Requirements:  You are required to complete ONE assignment. This is a test grade. One half will be library participation (checking out books), and the other half will be based on the actual report.  You must fill out the “Book Background” handout each six week.s. This must be turned in with your actual book report, or you will lose points.  You must get teacher approval for your book UNLESS it has more than 100 pages.  You MAY NOT read a book that is also a movie.  You are encouraged to do additional assignments for extra credit each six weeks.

Failure to turn in this form will cost you 10 points on your book assignment. Remember, that each book assignment is a test grade.

BOOK REPORT #1—BOOK JACKET Instructions:

1. Using unlined paper, fold the paper in half. You should now have something that resembles a book cover.

2. On the front include the title, author, and a neat and colorful illustration. It must look different than the present book jacket.

3. On the back use any or all of the following:

 Author’s biography

 Other books by the author

 Positive quotes about the book by famous people who have read it

4. Covering the entire middle portion, summarize the book. CONVINCE ME THAT YOU READ THE ENTIRE BOOK.

Special Instructions:

1. You must use unlined paper.

2. If your book jacket doesn’t show major effort, you will receive a very low grade.

3. NEATNESS COUNTS!

4. Your art work doesn’t have to be a masterpiece; however, it must be neat, colored, and show effort.

5. Do not leave excessive amounts of blank space.

6. Place your name on the inside blank area.
