QHPC Senior Camp 2015

QHPC Senior Camp 2015

Well done to everyone who attended camp this year, you and your ponies were all fantastic.

We were very lucky with the weather as the rain only joined us on the final night and on the final day, but even the weather couldn’t spoil the last day at camp.

As well as a lot of riding and fun we also learnt a lot. Sarah Freeman came and gave a very informative and hands on talk about colic, Holly Gillott bought one of her horses to camp and gave a fantastic demonstration and answered everyone’s questions about her training methods and riding career. Some of the members managed to overcome some of their fears when they were given the opportunity to meet and handle some of the exotic animals that are kept at Brooksby, (snakes, rats, spiders, skinny pigs etc.)

Everyone joined in with the spirit of camp and I did rather enjoy seeing all of the troops paper chained together trying to complete the treasure hunt without breaking the links in their chain!!!!!

The Puissance took place on Thursday morning and it was a very exciting competition with the winning pony and rider clearing a very impressive 1.20m.

Thursday evening was the Family Fun Evening where a very delicious BBQ was provided for us all to enjoy. The final day….. This started off with a Tack and Turnout Competition that was kindly judged by Charles Geary, who had a very difficult job picking an overall winner due to the very high standard of turnout that the members had produced themselves.

This was then followed by the final competition, firstly each member had been working on an individual and imaginative show that they had created themselves, the scores from this then went forward towards the Inter Hunt Relay. This was a very exciting competition for both the members and the spectators. It was not only judged on speed but also style, with a joker fence for extra points as well.

I would just like to say that this was my first year organising Senior Camp and I did not know what to expect, but it was a great week with some lovely members, enjoying their fantastic ponies and it was really good to see some new friendships being made.

A Huge Thank You

Firstly I would like to thank Emma Bramley, who organised all of the pony activities, without her help camp would not have happened and I take my hat off to her for organising camp in previous years.

Thank you to all of the instructors: Jayne Walker, Natalie Barsby, Julie Mann, Lucy Greaves and Rachael Fairbrother, you were all fantastic and gave every member an incredibly fun week combined with lots of learning. Thank you to the following people as well: Janice Matthews, Ann Marie Wallace, Laura Turner and Charlie Haynes for your help in the smooth running of booking everyone in on Sunday.

Laura Simes, Amy Simes, Hannah Bedford and Anna Butler for coming to camp for the whole week and helping everyone with everything!

Jane Barton for all of your help and support on the run up to camp and during camp and also thank you for providing the fun prizes.

Janice Matthews for all of your support in the last year!!!!!

Andrew Bramley for your help with Supervision during the nights.

James Baxter for being on standby in case we needed a parent supervisor at the last minute.

Celia Frew not just for helping with morning supervision but also for bringing Charlie to camp several times to help several of the members out. Kate Theobald and Sue Keates Robinson for staying overnight.

A HUGE thank you to Haley Gorse, Lisa May, Katey McDonnell and Charlie McDonald for the amazing BBQ on Thursday evening.

Also thank you to Becky Harris for doing the mammoth job of making sure that everyone at camp had access to food and drink at all times, I think Becky would agree “Where did all that food go???” Thank you to all of the other parents that helped especially Charlie Haynes, Jayne Acworth, Amanda Schroeder, Linda Chapman, Suzanne Duxbury, Gail Rushton, Mary Swain, Ann Fowler, Aly Murphy and Caroline Marlow . If I have forgotten anyone, my apologies, but thank you. Without the help of parents, camp would not be able to happen!
