Rules for MiniBrick Derby Car

Specifications for Using Racers in Contests:

Cars must be built during the Olympic event on site. Basic materials will be supplied by the program include a Lego MiniBrick Derby Kit, which contains a 4 wheels and 2 axles. Each team will need to provide their own Legos used for building the derby car, which provides the teams to incorporate their own creativity and engineering skills. You will need to bring the materials and accessories to build the car but they must be LEGO products.

MiniBrick Derby Car Inspections:

Each car is inspected at weigh-in for the following inspection points: 1. MiniBrick Derby Car Dimensions:  The overall length of the car shall not exceed 18 cm.  The overall width of the car shall not exceed 8 cm.  The car must have 1 cm clearance underneath the body so it does not rub on the track. 2. MiniBrick Derby Car Weight:  The car weight shall not exceed 142 g.  The car will be massed at the completion using an official race scale. This mass will be considered final. 3. Wheels and Axles:  The wheels may not be cut, drilled, beveled or rounded. You may remove the seams and imperfections from the wheels.  The axles may be altered by polishing or lubricating. 4. Car Modifications Not Allowed:  Wheel bearings, washers or bushings are prohibited.  The car must not ride on any type of springs.  No starting devices. The car must be freewheeling.  No loose material of any kind, such as lead shot.  Non LEGO materials used to build the car will result in the disqualification of the car.

Other Mini-Brick Derby Race Rules:  Once a car passes inspection and is entered into the race, only race committee members can touch it.  If the car loses a piece, or is otherwise damaged, the racer shall have 5 minutes to make a repair  Each car must pass inspection by the official inspection committee before it will be allowed to compete.  The Inspection Committee has the responsibility to disqualify those cars that do not meet these specifications.
