Welcome Back to Term Three After What I Hope Was a Relaxing and Enjoyable Break. This

WELCOME BACK Welcome back to term three after what I hope was a relaxing and enjoyable break. This term promises to be another eventful one with activities such as the Grade One Dinner, Grade Two Sleepover, Bike Education, Student Led Conferences, Athletics and junior excursions to the Zoo and the Traffic School. The annual Footy Parade at the end of term is always one of my term three highlights. During the holidays the school was alive with the Moreland City Council holiday program running daily as well as works going on around the school. Works were completed on the Junior building with the brick work being pinned back to the rest of the building and brickwork being repaired. This was the final stage in the repair of this building to ensure that it stands solidly for many years to come. The Music Room was painted during the break. When it is carpeted we will be ready for occupation. Concreting and brick repairs were also carried out around the school to create more even and safe surfaces. Also welcome back to Mrs Evans who was on leave most of term 2, we missed you!

BIKE EDUCATION Our grade four students commence Bike Education this Friday. This program is run for grade four students every year. The program teaches them to look after their bike and how to ride safely. Mrs Evans is a trained Bike Education trainer and runs an effective program for the students every year. The program runs each Friday from 2:30-3:30. Over the past couple of years keen grade 4 parents who are bike riders have assisted with the program. See Mrs Evans if you are interested.

SCHOOL COUNCIL REPORT Junior School Council report was presented to council by Oscar Spivey. He told the council about the planned fundraisers for term 3 and also about the planned focus they have on sustainability. The Junior School Council will meet with Lucy Best to discuss and plan this. Lucy is one our parents who works in this field. The school council has been discussing dogs in the school yard for a couple of meetings. The school council has decided that dogs will no longer be permitted in the school yard. This decision was taken for safety and liability reasons. Therefore it would be appreciated if families did not bring their dogs into the school yard. You are welcome to wait outside the school ground with your dog on a lead if you do not leave them unattended. The school council discussed created links with a Northern Territory school visited regularly by two of our parents Brett and Rikke. We discussed becoming sister school, exchange visits and selling their craft work for them. Further discussions will be had to develop this idea. The school council is looking for a volunteer to source available grants for the school and apply for those that will benefit the school. Anyone who feels they are suited to this task please contact Mrs Zull. RAY MADDEN -School Council President 1 17/07/2013 EDUCATION MAINTENANCE ALLOWANCE Instalment Two The Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) is provided to assist eligible families with the costs associated with the education of their children. FARMERS MARKET We kicked off term 3 with another Farmers Market on Saturday - while the blue sky was hidden the temperature was certainly milder than previous markets which made a nice change. This week’s market was run by 1A who did a wonderful job once again. A huge thanks to all of our helpers Ben and Veronica, Sonia and Aliyah (grade 6), Kerrie, Jesse and Olivia, Ann and Ayra, Kate and Daisy, Michele and Bianca, Cat and Anabelle and Paula and Kai (1B) Thanks also to Miss Testaz who again braved the early morning cold temperatures to help cook some pancakes. Finally a special mention to Meredith and Logan (1B) and Jonah (1A) who got to arrive at school in the dark wee hours of the morning to mix up the pancake batter - what an adventure! The market this week was a bit quieter probably due to the school holidays and the 3 week break but we still managed to make $330 on the pancake stall and $950 on the gate, which is great work.

2 17/07/2013 The next market will be on July 27th and it is Prep B's turn to put their pancake making skills to the test.
