Carolyn White: Testing Data/Information -Third grade EVAAS data did not use TRC data, but did in K-2. Highest kids performed the lowest, but lowest kids performed the best on the EOG, as far as growth. Highest kids (highest=scored highest on BOG) were -13.2 (5 kids) and lowest kids were +6.6 (26 kids) -Extend 2 tests are gone this year for third grade. -Third grade portfolios are ready. -Read to Achieve will be given for third time (same test) for students who are in fourth grade that didn’t pass in the summer in next few weeks. There should be a label in PowerTeacher that designates who takes this test and who doesn’t (good cause exemptions, etc.). There will be a piece of information to go in cumulative folders to indicate student status on the Read to Achieve Test. There is still a great bit of confusion about kids who are new to our school from other schools and systems. -We will use TRC level P to keep students from doing the portfolio for TRC. -We can go through and look at individual students to see what their growth was. -The bars for AMO growth are still being raised. It will be extremely difficult for students to meet these growth benchmarks. -School Report Cards will be based on Grade Level Proficiency. AMO’s used College and Career Readiness. School Grades will be in report cards with AMO’s, CCR, GLP, and performance grades. If you exceeded growth, the lowest score you could have is 85%, add to performance grade to get School Performance Grade. We are about 72, which is a B school. This is still being discussed and not finalized yet. If growth hurts school, it won’t count toward performance grade. -UCPS is 3rd in meeting AMO’s for the state, 2nd in performance levels, highest in graduation rates -Question about goal summaries and breakdown of Reading. Informational scores went down significantly, particularly in fourth grade, but test did not change. -Another question is about new curriculum and alignment with the same test we’ve had. We don’t have answers yet.

Old Business: -Amendment to minutes for last month – 21st Century After School Program was originally put in minutes to be $25 per student. Correct information is that it pays teachers $25 per hour.

Comprehensive Needs Assessment Read in our own time. If you see any changes that need to be made, let Keitha know. We will discuss this at the next meeting.

School Size Issue As the district grows, we need to know what size works? We have to think about financials, resources, etc. One proposal is that 1000 elementary, 1600 middle, 2200 high schools. New additions will be built for 1000, unless the county decides that 1000 is too high. Our projection was 742, we ended up with 710. The projection is where money comes from. We need to discuss what is appropriate for schools as far as class and school size. More students would mean another AP. State determines class size as a ratio. Class sizes wouldn’t change. If size changes, core capacity in each part of building would be increased as well (gym, cafeteria, library, etc.). We need to think about the impact that it would have and what additional resources would be added to give the “small school feel.” Another concern about bigger schools is safety and transportation. Research is indifferent on this. Our decision as a school is to make schools safe, and have as many resources available, and for every student to be known by the staff. We propose that elementary max 800, middle max 1400, high max 2000.

Omnova Foundation Grant There is a $5000 grant available. Talk to teams and see if there’s anything that we would like to have that pertains to science and environment. Let administration know if there’s anything you’d like to propose.

Procedures -Make sure students are written on correct spot on bus sheets. This is a safety concern when we need to pull students. Know what buses you put students on. -Send transportation change notes to the office in the morning. This is also a safety issue. Mrs. Newton picks notes up around 8:30. ALL NOTES NEED TO BE OUT IN THE MORNING! We need to make sure students are getting home correctly. -Cafeteria- Leave it better than you find it! Some grade levels are doing a better job than others, but we need to make this a habit and reinforce every day. Teachers need to be diligent about doing this. Work with another teacher as a team to make sure this is being reinforced as well. -Conferences should be finished by the end of this week. Margo will be sending out information about what to do if you haven’t gotten all of your conferences done. -Substitutes are very difficult to get and we are also short on assistants, so we don’t have coverage for classes if the teacher is absent. We need for grade levels to have a grade level plan in case there isn’t a substitute available. Ms. Thomas will advocate for more subs, but we need to be prepared with this plan. Discuss this with your team and get it to administration. Get this plan to administration by Friday, October 31. Also, make sure you designate students that need to be separated if there is a split. We still won’t get a sub for EC teachers/Literacy. -We will have a STEMS quick training next week. We will also be trained on dong PDP’s during the staff meeting on 10/29. There will be restraint training that day. -Sickness/germs – make sure we encourage children to wash hands, especially before eating and after restrooms.

School Shirts/Jackets -Polo style shirts available for staff. School will cover $10, we will cover the rest. There will also be a zip jacket. Polo shirts will be the golf style shirt. Staff can order one or both, but will get $10 toward cost. There will be embroidery on the shirt/jacket that says “Rock Rest Elementary.” Concerns -Bathrooms outside of cafeteria smell horrible. It needs to be cleaned better. Ms. Thomas will work on this. -Work on getting students to order tie dye shirts. Don’t put order forms in message folders. -Concern about students wearing black pants. Make sure students know this, as it is part of dress code. Teachers need to enforce that we are only wearing Rock Rest jackets outside of the classroom. They can wear other jackets while in classroom or outside, but no other place in the building. If there is a financial concern, we may have to send to the office. Ms. Thomas will do a ConnectEd about the dress code and donating old Rock Rest uniforms to help. -We have a new counselor that will be starting next week. -Ms. Moss is at home on doctor’s orders. Kay Jo will be going into that room. -Teachers need to clean up behind themselves in the teacher work area. If it continues to be a mess, the fire marshall will shut that area down. Be respectful of the other teachers in the building. We can private print copies. One copier will be moved to the other pod. -We will likely not be getting any new assistants.

Meeting adjourned at 4:45 pm.
