BOLD Chapel Hill, NC 27514 704-813-1734 Transportation: Carpool BOLD stands for Building Opportunities through Language Development and is dedicated to providing free one-on- one English tutoring to members of the community who are anxious to learn. Tutors (defined as students of UNC- CH) are asked to work with BOLD staff members to create and implement lesson plans that correspond to the individual needs of their respective students (defined as individuals who are not UNC-CH students).

BOLD aspires to make a genuine and unparalleled contribution to both the University and the Carrboro/Chapel Hill community by offering free ESL tutoring to non-native speakers within the surrounding community. The Chapel Hill/Carrboro area is home to an impressive number of immigrants, many of whom are eager to integrate themselves and their families into the community and to broaden their occupational and educational prospects. Unfortunately, many of our non-native residents are unable to accomplish these goals due, in part, to their lack of English language skills. It is with this issue in mind that BOLD has been created.

Although the main objective of BOLD is to build language skills, our goal is to also foster personal and communal relationships among our students and tutors through social activities. We hope to be a helpful and available resource to our students as they integrate into the Chapel Hill/Carrboro community.
