Academic Student Employee (Unit 11) Hiring Guidelines

ACADEMIC STUDENT EMPLOYEE (UNIT 11) HIRING GUIDELINES

I. To Recruit

1. Colleges/Departments will draft position descriptions. 2. Colleges/Departments will post available positions on Monstertrak.com. 3. Position listings must include: 3.a.General description of duties. 3.b. Percentage or hours of appointment, when known. 3.c.Minimum qualifications. 3.d. Statement of any exceptions to the minimum qualifications. 3.e.Application procedures and contact person. 3.f. Hiring criteria. 3.g. Deadlines for application. 3.h. Procedures for notification. 3.i. Employment non-discrimination and Clery Act statement.

II. To Appoint

1. Generate a standard Unit 11 appointment letter, using template guidelines. 2. Provide employee with appointment letter, position description, and Social Security notification. 3. Deliver hiring documents to Academic Affairs. 4. Employee will report to Payroll to sign in on first day of employment.

III. To File in Personnel File

1. Maintained by Colleges/Departments. 2. Copy of appointment letter (keep for 3 years). 3. Copy of position description. 4. Performance evaluations.

IV. To Access Unit 11 Information

1. Academic Affairs Personnel Services will create a Unit 11 information link on its Website, and will post the following information: 1.a.A link to the Unit 11 Collective Bargaining Agreement. 1.b. A link to the Classification and Qualification Standards for each of the three academic student employee categories. 1.c.Academic student employee hiring guidelines. 1.d. Templates for academic student employee appointment letters.
