Job Description

Title of Post: Relief Support Worker Responsible to: Project Manager

The main purpose of the role of Support Worker is to work effectively as part of a team to provide advice and support to clients across a range of needs, and supporting clients through a process of change.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

1. To undertake appropriate key working activities to provide ongoing support for St Petrock’s clients.

2. To work as part of a team to ensure the safety and well being of St Petrock’s clients, volunteers and staff.

3. To utilise knowledge, skills and experience to recognise difficult or challenging client situations and use appropriate communication skills to influence and control client’s behaviour.

4. To ensure that clients/visitors entering the building are welcomed to the centre and made aware of the facilities and services available.

5. To liaise with and co-ordinate the work of a number of individuals and/or agencies to achieve effective outcomes.

6. To maintain enthusiasm for a high level of contact with clients on a day to day basis.

7. To maintain a non-judgemental approach to working with homeless people.

8. To understand the needs and support requirements of vulnerable clients on low (or no) incomes, including those with mental health and or substance dependency problems.

9. To develop and maintain professional boundaries with St Petrock’s clients in line with St Petrock’s policy.

10. To have an understanding and commitment to Diversity and Equality, Confidentiality and all relevant national and local government legislation.

11. To have a willingness to work flexibly in response to changing organisational requirements.

12. To attend and participate in all meetings as and when required.

. Working with vulnerable adults with a range of immediate and on-going support needs.

. Liaising with and co-ordinating the work of a number of individuals and agencies to achieve effective outcomes.

. Awareness of the cause and effects of homelessness including rough sleeping

. Awareness of the causes and effects of substance abuse and issues around mental health.

. In promoting equal opportunities and challenging discriminatory practices.

Desirable

. An understanding and working knowledge of the current Welfare and Housing Benefits systems.

. An understanding of the range of housing services and options available to the client group.

. Awareness of current, relevant legislation and the impact of that legislation on the project.

Other requirements:

. An understanding of professional boundaries.

. Ability to recognise and to work with the support of local churches, statutory agencies, volunteers and the wider community.

. Available to work day sessions (8.30am to 1.00pm) and/or night sessions (5.45pm to 8.30am) and occasional weekends and bank holidays.

The physical environment of St Petrock’s may challenge some physical disabilities, please feel able to visit the centre and discuss any requirements with the Project Manager.

Limitations applicable to this post:

This is a relief contract subject to funding

Renumeration:

The salary range for this post is £8.80 per hour (day session) and £14.00 per hour (night session)

Salaries are paid monthly in arrears, by the last day of each month and are paid by bank transfer.

Hours of work:

As required, this is a relief post.
