GROSSMONT-CUYAMACA COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT

TO: All Academic and Classified Employees FROM: Employment Services RE: MANDATORY TUBERCULIN (TB) TESTING FOR SCHOOL EMPLOYEES

Per California Education Code, Section 87408.6, "No person shall be initially employed by a school district in an academic or classified position unless the person has submitted to an examination within the past 60 days to determine that they are free from active tuberculosis." "This examination is renewable every four years."

GROSSMONT-CUYAMACA COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT PROVIDES FOR TB TESTING ON BOTH COLLEGE CAMPUSES AT NO COST TO THE EMPLOYEE. HOWEVER, HEALTH OFFICES ARE A STUDENT SERVICE AND TB TESTING IS OFFERED AS A COURTESY TO STAFF. PLEASE ALLOW EXTRA TIME FOR SCHEDULED APPOINTMENTS AS STUDENTS AND OTHER MEDICAL EMERGENCIES WILL TAKE PRIORITY.

CUYAMACA HEALTH OFFICE - Phone: 660-4200, Room I-134

Testing Days/Hours: Please call for current testing days and hours.

Result Hours: 48 Hours after test. ***Please call before coming in to ensure the nurse will be available to administer the test.

GROSSMONT HEALTH OFFICE - Phone: 644-7192, Griffin Center. Room 130

Testing Days/Hours: Please call for current testing days and hours.

Result Hours: 48 Hours after test.

IMPORTANT: The above information is for the testing only! You do NOT fulfill the Education Code requirements until the test is read TWO DAYS LATER, and the result is satisfactory. When you go in for the test, plan ahead and make sure that you are available to RETURN TO THE HEALTH OFFICE TWO DAYS LATER, at about the same time of day.

POSITIVE REACTION: If you have proof of a past positive reaction to the TB skin test AND a follow-up x-ray indicating no presence of TB infection, you can fulfill our district's TB requirements by meeting with the nurse in Health Services (Grossmont College) to complete a health questionnaire. Please bring proof of these to the Health Office.

Test results will promptly be sent to Employment Services, where your records will be updated and the results filed in your personnel file. The test will not have to be renewed for FOUR YEARS.

We can forward a copy of your TB test result to any other school district, upon request. If you have a valid TB test result on file in another school district, a copy will be acceptable and no test is necessary. Please call Employment Services to request the above.

If you are a member of the Kaiser health plan, you can have the TB test done during the day at the La Mesa Medical facility at the Nurses' Clinic. These tests are not done on Thursday, Saturday or Sunday.

You may also get the test done at one of the County Public Health Care Centers. Call 692-5565 (information) for location most convenient. There is a minimal charge, $11.00, as of this writing, but if you keep your receipt and present it to a staff member in either of the campus business offices, you can be reimbursed for the full amount. If you choose to have the test done at one of the county health facilities, they require that you have the exact amount of money with you at the time of the initial visit. They do accept personal checks. It might be wise to call and double check on the charge, as it is subject to change.

If you want to go to your personal physician, that is fine; however, we will only reimburse you $5.00 of the total cost (with receipt). We will, of course, accept a copy of a valid TB test result that you may already have on file in your doctor's office. PLEASE CALL EMPLOYMENT SERVICES AT (619)644-7644 FOR FURTHER INFORMATION
