Kentucky young people gain personally and make a positive impact on this community by using what they’ve learned in the 4-H Youth Development program. Members acquire knowledge through a number of projects including natural resources, food and nutrition, animal and plant sciences, health and safety, and various artistic endeavors. In addition, 4-Hers gain leadership, communication, citizenship and interpersonal skills and develop attitudes and habits to meet the challenges of today and the future. They also become productive citizens who serve as catalysts for positive changes that meet the needs of a diverse, changing society. Alumni often mention numerous benefits they gained as 4-H members. These include developing leadership, management and communication skills, preparing to enter the workforce, and gaining a better understanding of citizenship responsibilities. 4-H Youth Development is the Kentucky Cooperative Extension System=s dynamic, educational programming for young people. It is open to all youth between the ages of nine and 19 years old. As county Extension agents, we develop programs and activities geared to the needs and interests of youth in this area. We work with the county 4-H council, community organizations and governmental agencies to develop educational programs for the particular situations in this county. In addition to youth programming, 4-H also encourages teenagers and adults to become volunteer leaders in their communities. If you’re not already involved in 4-H as a member or volunteer, now is a good time to join our program because clubs reorganize and enroll new members and leaders in the fall. For more information, contact the (County Name) Cooperative Extension Service. Educational programs of the Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service serve all people regardless of race, color, age, sex, religion, disability or national origin. -30-
