I. It’s not fair!
We experience a demand for fairness
Insisting on justice in the here and now at all times
Sources of this thinking:
- Having been powerless, or even victimized
Externalization: Somebody fix this
- Having been rescued from suffering—enabled
- The Just World Theory: life should be fair
Job: Why do bad things happen to good people? Then the LORD said to Job, “Do you still want to argue with the Almighty? You are The problem: We judge God God’s critic, but do you have the answers?” —Job 40:1-2 The solution: Let God be God
II. What it means
It’s not always bad to say something is not fair
The protest season
In relational things, know what percentage to forgive and what to change
“It’s not fair!” can ruin relationships
It puts your relationship under the Law
Grace always works better
Successful people don’t think much about fairness
“I’m gonna fix this”
Move from “It’s not fair” to “I just hate this”

Boundaries don’t bring fairness to the universe
Boundaries guard your heart Guard your heart, for from it flow the wellsprings of life. —Proverbs 24:23 Boundaries help us make our hearts healthy so we can help
III. Tips
1. Remember that God gave up fairness for us For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God God’s model is “I’ve got to solve the problem” —1 Peter 3:18
2. For one week, record every time you got away with something
And aren’t you glad that that’s not fair?
3. Be an agent for justice in the world
The people who bring justice don’t worry about “fair”
