 LAST DAY FOR A COLLEGE DAY: Friday, April 25, 2008 Mrs. Russell will need a note from your parent requesting a college day. Permission must be requested at least five days prior to the requested college day.

SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION (“” indicates new information in this issue)  Dawn Allfrey Memorial Scholarship to the University of North Alabama is available to students that have been accepted to UNA. Applications are available in the College/Career Room. Deadline: Friday, April 4.  “Brub” Hamilton Memorial Scholarship to the University of North Alabama is available to students who have been accepted to UNA with an interest in pursuing a degree in education. Applications are available in the College/Career Room. Deadline: Friday, April 4.  City of Athens Electric Department scholarship applications have come in.  Margie Rose Looney Memorial Scholarship to the University of North Alabama is available to students who have been accepted to UNA who are majoring in business. Applications are available in the College/Career Room. Deadline: Friday, April 4.  UAB Spirit Life has cheerleader, dance team, and mascot opportunities with partial scholarship opportunities for those who become members of the Spirit Teams program. For more information visit: www.students.uab.edu/student-life.  Delta Sigma Theta Sorority (Central North Alabama Alumnae Chapter) announces its academic scholarship. Applications are available in the College/Career Room. Deadline: Monday, March 31.  Athens City Educators Great Expectations $1,000 Scholarship is available to an AHS graduating senior. Criteria: minimum 3.0 GPA and minimum of 21 ACT score. Applications are available in the College/Career Room. Deadline: Thursday, May 1.  Limestone County NAACP will award five $500 scholarships to a Limestone County graduating senior. Essay required. Applications are available in the College/Career Room. Deadline: Friday, April 18.  The Inter-Tribal Council of Alabama’s Workforce Investment Act (WIA) is a federally funded program through the Department of Labor which provides special funding to Indians and Native Americans. An information sheet is available in the College/Career Room.  The Fabricators & Manufacturers Association Foundation has scholarships and grants available for training in the metal forming and fabricating industry. Deadline: Friday, April 4.  Environmental or Industrial Safety Sciences Scholarship information sheet (two $1,000 scholarships) is available in the College/Career Room. CAER of Metro Huntsville Community Awareness/Emergency Response is a not-for-profit professional association of local industries and vendors who seek to improve the Page 1 of 2 environment and public safety in the Tennessee Valley region of North Alabama. Two $1,000scholarships are being offered to qualified seniors who submit winning essays. Deadline is: Wednesday, April 30.  Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers’ Sorority offers the Cleo and Ozro Flanagan $500 Scholarship. It may be used at any university/college and in any field of study. Applications are available in the College/Career Room. Deadline: Thursday, March 20.  Martin Endowed Scholarship is available for graduating seniors. The amount of scholarship will be one $3,000 scholarship or two $1,500 scholarships. The scholarship is limited to the following Alabama colleges: Auburn, Calhoun, UNA, UAH, and Alabama A & M. Consideration will be given for financial need. Applications are available in the College/Career Room. Deadline to Guidance Department: Monday, March 28.  Athens-Limestone Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship will award four $1,000 scholarships to Limestone County high school seniors planning to pursue a degree in Healthcare from an accredited college or university. Applications are available in the College/Career Room. Deadline: Friday, April 18.  City of Athens Electric Department plans to offer a $2,000 General Scholarship to a graduating senior attending high school in Athens or Limestone County. In addition a $2,000 Career Technical Scholarship will be awarded to a qualified student who attends the Limestone County Career Technical Center. Applications will be available in the College/Career Room after Friday, March 14. Deadline: Friday, April 18.  Bob Dunnavant Sr. Communications $500 Scholarship will be awarded to a senior planning to major in communications. Applications are available in the College/Career Room. Deadline: Thursday, April 17.  Bob Dunnavant Jr. History $500 Scholarship will be awarded to a senior planning to major in history. Applications are available in the College/Career Room. Deadline: Thursday, April 17.  Jessica Michelle Elkins Scholarship has been made available in the amount of $2,500. The scholarship is being offering to students with a 2.5 GPA or above and who also have a need for financial assistance. Applications are available in the College/Career Room. Deadline to Guidance Department: Friday, March 28.  Limestone Area Community Foundation $1,500 Scholarship is available to deserving Athens-Limestone County graduating seniors. Consideration will be given to financial need. Applications are available in the College/Career Room. Deadline to Guidance Department: Friday, March 28.  Athens-Limestone Retirees Association Scholarship for 2008 has been announced. The award will be one $1,000 scholarship to a deserving graduating senior. Deadline: Tuesday, April 1.  Limestone County Sports Hall of Fame $1,500 Scholarship will be awarded to two Athens-Limestone County 2008 graduating seniors. Senior MUST be involved with sports at their school (listed below) football, volleyball, basketball, softball, baseball, track and field, cross country, golf, tennis, soccer, student trainer, manager, statistician. Consideration will be given for financial need. Applications are available in the College/Career Room. Deadline to Guidance Department: Friday, March 28.  Ferman and Elmore Scholarship $750 Scholarship is available to a 2008 AHS graduating senior. Applications are available in the College/Career Room. Deadline to Guidance Department: Friday, March 28.  Coach Will Orman Scholarship will be awarded to a senior or previous senior to be used for books and supplies. Students must have minimum GPA of 2.5 and have participated in school and community activities. Applications are available in the College/Career Room. Applications must be turned in to Mr. Smith by Friday, April 25.  American Legion $1,000 Scholarships is available to graduates in Limestone County. To be eligible, the student must be a descendant of an American Legion member. Applications are available in the College/Career Room. Deadline: Tuesday, April 1.  School Superintendents of Alabama will award nine $1,000 student scholarships pursing a degree in education. Applications are available in the College/Career Room. Deadline: Thursday, April 10.  North Alabama Educators Credit Union is accepting applications for a $1,500 scholarship to any accredited college/university of your choice. Criteria: high school senior or college student and a NAECU member. All students of public and private schools in Madison, Morgan, or Limestone counties are eligible to join NAECU. Applications are available in the College/Career Room or at www.naecu.org. Deadline: Tuesday, April 1.  Athens Dixie Youth Baseball 2008 Larry Russell Memorial $1,000 Scholarship has been announced. Criteria: GPA minimum 2.8; one year participation in ADYB, recommendation, and essay. Applications are available in the College/Career Room. Deadline: Friday, May 2.  North Alabama Craftsmen’s Association (NEACA) offers a $1,000 scholarship to any senior for attending any college, vocational, or business school. Applications are available in the College/Career Room. Deadline: Tuesday, April 15.
