POSITION: GROUP MENTOR (up to 18 students per group), Elementary & Middle School Afterschool Programs

SALARY: $11 per hour, approximately 20 hours weekly, afternoons. Pay raise to $12/hour possible after 90 days of successful performance.

POSITION DATES: September 3, 2013 through May 30, 2014, following the I-SS calendar

DEADLINE: Applications due by July 30. Interviews will be August 12-14.

MINIMUM  Successful work/volunteer experience with diverse struggling K-8 students QUALIFICATIONS:  High School diploma; successful background check & clean drug test  Additional coursework related to working with children preferred  Positive team spirit and creativity; CDL eligibility preferred  Skill in using email, Internet, and Microsoft Office software

RESPONSIBILITIES: Work in a maximum ratio of 1 to 18 youth to provide first-line supervision, safety, and advocacy for each student, implement enrichment and prevention activities, ensure continuity with a caring adult regardless of who is conducting an activity, and serve as a concerned point of contact for each family. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:  Assist with homework completion, tutoring, social skill development, building motivation, and individual student skill development  Maintain careful documentation of each child’s participation, progress, family and teacher contacts, and behavior through accurate completion of a Daily Activity Log for each student  Contact, at least twice monthly, each child’s family and teacher  Develop lesson plans for, prepare, and conduct regular thematic enrichment activities for program children and families  Assist in planning and coordinating activities and partnerships

REPORTS TO: Center Coordinator at site of assignment. Openings are with East Elementary, Troutman Elementary, & Troutman Middle School students.
