TRAC Scheduling Assistant March 2012

A Longer Shot Clock for Dollars Per Minute Dates to Remember 3/1 – 3/31: Women’s History Month The annual madness that is March begins for most of us on 3/3 – 3/18: March Pledge Period Saturday, March 3 and then engulfs the male audience on 3/11: Daylight Savings Begins March 15 for the NCAA basketball tournament. The 16 3/15 – 4/2: NCAA Men’s Tourney official days of pledge is a long haul, but the basic tenets still 3/17: St. Patrick’s Day apply: front load. Your fellow programmers and pledge folks will begin to coalesce around a few new titles which they believe to be sure hits, in this case The Big Band Vocalists and Great Perfs “Phantom of the Opera.” By the time of the first MPS call the TRAC Pledge Practicum will be wrapping up and any intelligence coming out of the sessions will be shared on the call. However, as you put together your March pledge schedule don’t forget the tools already at your fingertips – TRAC’s analysis of demos for pledge titles, network vs. PTV timeslot advantages, and other valuable data.

 The end of pledge brings the NPS back into alignment with core audience expectations – kinda. Viewers tuning in Sunday will undoubtedly be a little surprised to see Henry Gates doing his threadbare genealogy- ancestry-schmoozing with celebrities thing. Finding Your Roots is good mission, but will it bring eyeballs? Fortunately, ARS comes to the GRP rescue with a new set from El Paso. Fenway Park at 100 may grab a few male viewers into baseball history, but this is more likely a local show for WGBH. It’s good to have a new NOVA in for the week, and Quest for the Lost Maya may also pull a crowd.
