The South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) is the regulator established in terms of the Pharmacy Act, 1974 (Act 53 of 1974) to regulate pharmacy students, pharmacists, pharmacy support personnel and pharmacy premises in South Africa. The South African Pharmacy Council mandate is to protect, promote and maintain the health, safety and wellbeing of patients and the public ensuring quality pharmaceutical service for all South Africans.

All first year HCert students are required to register with the South African Pharmacy Council.

Payment: The SAPC Annual + registration fee (R1051.76) will be charged to your Student Account in March 2016. Thereafter, NMMU Pharmacy Department will submit a bulk payment on behalf of all HCert students to the SAPC.

Procedure:  To register, all first year students are required to fill in the form, “Application for registration as a Pharmacy Student (Pharmacy Technical Assistant/Pharmacy Technician) in Terms of the Pharmacy Act 53 of 1974”. We will provide you with these forms in 2016. Please ensure that you complete the form correctly and that all the relevant documents accompany the hardcopy.

 Thereafter, you will be required to do an on-line SAPC registration. NMMU Pharmacy Department will assist all students with this process during a Practical session. We will stipulate which documents you require for this on-line registration.

 The South African Pharmacy Council will be on campus on the 7th and 8th April 2016. Every student will be required to come to the Department on one of these day. You will be notified of the exact date and timeslot closer to the time. At this session, your SAPC Application will be verified, a photo will be taken and you will be issued with your SAPC card. Attendance is mandatory for this session.

SUMMARY

Student Accounts and the NMMU Pharmacy Department will ensure that all HCert students’ accounts are debited with the applicable annual fees. Once these journal entries have been captured by Student Accounts, NMMU Pharmacy will transfer these amounts and pay the relevant Providers/Suppliers. This will ensure that all students’ fees are paid within the correct timeframe, and that there are no delays because of late registrations and individual student’s failure to pay.

Please ensure that when we request information from you that you provide us with the requested documents or details within the correct timeframe.
