Benchmark 7: Refine and carry out Energy Saving Plan
The Green Team has refined what it takes to carry out an Energy Savings Plan, simple NO COST BEHAVORIAL MODIFICATIONS. The GREEN TEAM at times has felt that we have made” NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL, THAT NO ONE LISTENS TO US, AND THAT WE HAVE FAILED AS A TEAM.” THIS IS NOT THE CASE!! This is a new program, we know that any Energy Saving Program takes time to put into place. The Green Team is working with the local LPL to form a positive relationship with our Facilities Manager so the Green Team cam implement ideas for further savings. An example would be to install individual light switches on our three locker rooms.
Benchmark 8: Involve the whole school
Each morning a member of the Green Team makes an energy saving tip on the public address system which involves the whole school. The Energized Guys performed a comedy play to the sixth, seventh and eighth grade classes. This was very informing to the student body. We have been contacted to book them for next school year, which we have.
Benchmark 9: Involve students in Green Career Activity
Students were involved in a Green Career Activity by researching Green Jobs in Mr. Seals Technology Class and doing a report using Microsoft Word with proper format.
Benchmark 10: Share Recommendations; Report on Savings and Achievements Recommendations have been shared by sending emails to staff members. The Green Team shares recommendations by making posters and hanging them in the hallways and lunchroom. We have reported our savings through school wide emails and the student newspaper.
Benchmark 11: Educate and Engage parents and Community Members
Parents and Community Members are engaged through our GREEN TEAM WEB PAGE and through our student newspaper. We have made several ENERGY EFFICIENCY VIDEOS THAT HIGHLIGHTS OUR GREEN TEAM ACTIVITIES to help educate the school community on how to be energy efficient! Fifteen of my TECHNOLOGY students participated in the SPARKS DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY PROJECT!
Benchmark 12: Please state your plans to achieve a successful Summer Shut Down
Summer shut down will involve making sure all computers, monitors, printers, copiers, microwaves, fans, refrigerators, elmo’s, TV’s, VCR’s, surge arrest and lights are turned off. Thermostats need to be adjusted as well.
If Benchmarks 1-6 were not achieved prior to the Mid Year Meeting, please state which ones and how they were achieved during the second semester.
1 – 6 were achieved prior to Mid Year Meeting.
Please list any other achievements you’d like to include.
Our biggest achievement this year is that we feel the GREEN TEAM did made a difference! No, we did not save what we were capable of doing because, that takes every one, not just a few. Our electrical energy bills have been less for the past four months in a roll, and if Meadowview will use a few simple no cost behavioral changes our schools can save thousands of dollars before we have to begin paying our own electrical bills as adults!
