CITY AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS TO FOCUS ON STRENGTHENING FAMILIES DURING DAYLONG OUTREACH EVENT

(LAUDERDALE LAKES, Florida) — On Saturday, April 12, the City of Lauderdale Lakes – in partnership with the United Way of Broward County, RESBEATCORP, the Boyd Anderson PTSA, the Northwest Broward Community Coalition and Commit 2 B Fit – will present Strengthening Your Family Day. The free community outreach event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the City’s Multipurpose Building and Vincent Torres Park, 4331 NW 36th Street in Lauderdale Lakes.

Strengthening Your Family Day is designed to provide information to families – specifically those in the Boyd Anderson Zone – on the many educational and workforce training opportunities available for adults, and college and post-secondary training opportunities for youth. In addition to an informative educational resource fair, a series of concurrent workshops and breakout sessions will focus on the following topics throughout the day:

 Fighting for Your Child’s Rights  Helping Your Child with School Year Transitions  Alternative Life Paths  Effective Parenting Techniques  Financial Literacy (including information on predatory lending, budgeting, foreclosures, etc.)

“The City of Lauderdale Lakes is extremely proud to join with these agencies to provide this important information to area families,” says Anita Fain Taylor, City Manager. “This can only be a win-win situation for all involved, since stronger families translate to stronger communities.”

A variety of children’s activities including a bounce house and rock climbing wall is also planned. Free breakfast and lunch will be provided for all participants, and drawings for special door prizes will take place in the morning and afternoon.

“We encourage entire families to come out as the day promises to be a wonderful and exciting family experience filled with educational and training opportunities for both children and adults,” says Pastor Thomas Douglas, president of the Northwest Broward Community Coalition.

During the day, the City will also hold a special ceremony in which the basketball courts at Vincent Torres Park will be renamed and dedicated in honor of long-time parks volunteer and community advocate Herb Simons, in recognition of his commitment and service to the children and residents of Lauderdale Lakes.
