IT’S OJR CAVALCADE WEEK!!!!
1. 42 nd ANNUAL OJR CAVALCADE OF BANDS THIS SATURDAY: This is our week to shine and do what we do best………host the best cavalcade out there! Because so many terrific folks come together to help, volunteer their time, etc., we have developed the reputation of having one of, if not the best organized and smoothest-running show out there. Thanks again to Mrs. Chris Ficca and Mr. Mark Centanni, our coordinators, for organizing all of the aspects of the show that come together to make it great! I will attach the schedule for the night. The show starts at 5:00pm with bands scheduled at 15-minute intervals. Spread the word! Get people excited! It’s OJR Cavalcade week! 2. SPECIAL REQUEST FOR BAND MEMBERS THIS WEEK: All instrumentalists (except percussion and trumpets) are asked to bring your uniform jackets to practice Tuesday and Thursday night. We are adding the fabric pull into song 2 this week and we need your uniform jackets at practice each night to accomplish this. Only your jackets are needed, not your full uniform. Please do not take your jackets for dry-cleaning this week………it’s more important to have them at practice each night. 3. OJR BAND NIGHT AT “GIOVANNI’S” WED, OCT.3rd: Wednesday, Oct. 3rd is OJR Band Night at Giovanni’s Restaurant on rt. 724. If you go there for dinner and mention the OJR band to your waiter / waitress, we will receive a portion of the proceeds that evening as a fundraiser for our program. Hope to see you there. 4. DISTRICT BAND TRY-OUTS: Auditions for PMEA district band will be on Saturday, December 8th at Bayard Rustin High School in West Chester. Any band member interested in auditioning for district band should order the solo at this time (if you don’t already have it) so you can start to prepare. Solos can be ordered through Mr. Mengel. District band is an AWESOME opportunity and experience and it would be nice to have a large representation from Owen J. Roberts this year. 5. OJR BAND RECYCLING FUNDRAISER UPDATE: Here is a note from Mrs. Dorfler who heads up our recycling fundraiser: Hello band parents. Good news! Our old recycling vendor (Green School Project) we used for band recycling was bought out by a new recycling vendor (Funding Project). The new recycling company now accepts ink cartridges, toner cartridges, cell phones, digital cameras, MP3 players and laptops for recycling. With the previous vendor we could only recycle ink cartridges, toners and cell phones. Now we can accept so much more and raise money for the OJR-MPO to help the music programs at the elementary, middle school and high school level on items we would generally throw out. It doesn't matter if the items work or not. Please deposit any of the above items in the box marked recycling under the lock box in the high school band room. I will take care of it from there.
