Employment Opportunity Kamloops Community YMCA-YWCA – Aquatics Department Aquatics Coordinator Position (Full-time 40hrs/week)
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Aquatics Coordinator will be responsible for the development and coordination of all ‘Y’ Aquatic programs. He/she will exemplify the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all aspects of the position.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure aquatic safety is followed as per BC Law and the Health Department.
Hire, train, develop and evaluate Aquatic staff.
Communicate effectively internally and externally on aquatic issues.
Plan, organize and promote Aquatics activities.
Schedule all pool hours for programs, recreation, and fitness.
Maintain accurate records for the Aquatic department.
Create new activities and programs to enhance offerings at the branch.
Evaluating and recommending changes to a variety of instructional and recreational aquatic programs.
Development and implementation of the Aquatic budget
Program data monitoring and computer input.
Maintain all certifications as required.
Ensure all Kamloops YMCA-YWCA Aquatic departmental policies and procedures are followed.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
Current within 2 years Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Service award NLS Current within 1 year CPR/AED Current within 2 years Standard First Aid or equivalent Current within 2 years Red Cross Water Safety Instructor WSI or YMCA Swim Instructor certification Current within 2 years LS Lifesaving Instructor YMCA Management training or Management Skills for Supervisors – Levels 1, 2 & 3, and BCRPA and YMCA Fitness Leader certification would be an asset.
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the aquatic industry and a minimum of 2 years supervisory experience related to the job.
Must have or be willing to attain one or more of the following awards within the next 6-12 months – First Aid Instructor certification, NLSIT, WSIT, LSIT and/or YMCA Trainer Award for one or more of the previous.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS Considerable knowledge of Red Cross and Lifesaving Society programs, policies and general pool standards
Applied Knowledgeable of aquatic standards (BC Health Act).
Ability to lead, train, supervise and evaluate staff.
Sound judgment and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to effectively plan, organize and schedule aquatic program activities.
Ability to define problems areas, establish work methods and monitor tasks.
Exceptional ability to self-motivate and function with minimal direction meeting established timelines.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
The ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, YMCA-YWCA staff, members of the general public and external agencies.
Excellent conflict-resolution skills.
Ability to work within, and contribute to, a collaborative team environment.
Demonstrated commitment to customer service.
Applied knowledge of WCB regulations and local pool policy with regards to chlorine gas and other types of emergency circumstances, and safe work practices. Candidate must have a positive attitude, great interpersonal skills and the ability to lead a strong team.
