Be sure to learn these words.

force - something that starts an object moving or stops it when it is already moving; a push or pull that can move, stop, or change the direction of an object

gravity - something that pulls all objects towards each other Example: Gravity keeps the moon in orbit around the Earth

friction – when one object rubs against another

magnetism - the power to repel (push away) other magnets and the power to attract (pull towards) iron, steel, and certain other materials

energy - the ability to make changes in matter

sound- energy that comes from something that vibrates

Page 1 of 5 Know how circuits work.

Energy can only travel through a circuit if it is connected all the way through. An incomplete circuit will not conduct electricity. Electricity will only move through the wires if they are part of an electrical circuit.

There are several types of energy:

Solar energy – light energy from the sun that is changed into thermal (heat) energy or electrical energy

Light energy travels in a straight line. When it interacts with matter, it can be transmitted through, absorbed, or reflected. As light transmits through different kinds of matter it can bend (refract). This can make the image look bigger or smaller.

What are examples of uses of solar/light energy? INTERACTIONS AT WORK Energy Interactions Energy Interactions Unit Assessment-A 5T1U2A11

Thermal (heat) energy - the energy in things––the vibration and movement of the atoms and molecules inside materials

What are examples of uses of thermal/heat energy?

Electricity - energy that can make light or heat

What are examples of how we use electricity?

Sound Energy – the energy created by sound vibrations travelling through matter.

What are examples of how we use sound energy?

What are examples of how we use mechanical energy?
