The minutes of the previous meeting of the members of the National Executive Committee, held on 26 July 2007 (copies of which had been previously circulated), were accepted and signed by the Chairman as a true reflection of the proceedings.

3. MATTERS ARISING FROM THE PREVIOUS MINUTES

Statistics

Budget was the only member who had not, as yet, confirmed that they would contribute all statistics including revenue. Alan Coward from Budget confirmed AC that they would supply this information and any backdated information that was needed. It was reiterated that this statistical information was not in the public domain. Martin confirmed that he would circulate templates and asked that ML members ensure that the templates get through to the right levels.

1 Membership

Notice would be sent to defaulting members that their membership is being suspended pending settlement within 30 days or they will face expulsion from the Association.

These are: Abba, Dimela, Dollar thrifty and Vaal car hire.

4. CHAIRMAN’S REPORT

Martin read out his report to the meeting and the report was adopted by members. There were no matters arising from the Chairman’s report.

5. ELECTION OF OFFICE BEARERS

 Martin Lydall called on Susan Fletcher to advise members on the voting procedure in respect of the appointment of the sectional Chairman and Vice- Chairman. Susan Fletcher advised members that electronic nominations had previously been sent out and that certain persons that had been nominated had indicated that they were unable to stand. Susan Fletcher therefore called for additional nominations from the floor. Under the nomination of sectional Chairman, Martin Lydall was unopposed and was therefore appointed and in the category of Vice-Chairman, Marc Corcoran was appointed.

6. PRIORITIES FOR 2007/2008

 Tourism Business Council

Request for joint annual conference. The thought was that we join with the likes of ASATA, SATSA and TBCSA for the joint Tourism conference which would take place in Cape Town. This would be a perfect opportunity for us For Info to raise all our concerns and to resolve any industry matters e.g. the Safety and Security issue which has been addressed but has been put into a “pocket”. Val mentioned that the date would probably be around August 2008. Lance suggested that it should take place in the 1st quarter of the year. August would be too late.

 Theta

Val thanked members that had participated and encouraged members that had not as yet participated, to look at their business and see whether they ALL could in fact use any of the graduates. Theta pays R2500 per graduate per month.

 Salary survey

Salary survey will be out on the 31st October. It is a good survey to do every For Info two years. Val thanked everybody that had participated. Members suggested that the survey needed to happen more quickly. It took 4 months to complete this survey this year and this is just too long.

 Business Against Crime

Members felt that BAC has “lost the plot” and that their information was very

2 outdated. Wayne Duvenage asked that BAC be invited to address the meeting in January so that members could raise some of their concerns. It was up to each member to contribute as much as they wanted to. Marc For Info Corcoran suggested that Val find out exactly how much the industry was contributing. The relationship must be maintained. We needed to look at making a contribution through Savrala (as an Association) instead of individual members. This should give us more of an advantage.

3 Action 7. PROPOSED NEW PROJECTS

Industry Vehicle Category Project

Val did a graph to show that there is such disparity in the vehicle categories. The last meeting was not a very good meeting. It was attended by the wrong level of staff. Val would like to “feel” the desire of such a project going forward. For Info Lance suggested that we need to look at the different categories of vehicles. This would put us more in line with international car rental. If we have general approval we will take it up again the year ahead.

Monthly communication

There has been a lot of bad press lately and Val confirmed that a media breakfast was going to be organised. Val had already met with Dave Furlonger VvdB from the Financial Mail.

Planning for 2010

Members asked that Econometrix attend the next meeting to do a VvdB presentation on the economy going forward.

Industry Accident Damage - Project

The loss of use. Not a competitive issue. A very intense exercise in pursuing all our risk factors. Will encompass the FSB.

2008 Industry Conference : - TBCSA, SATSA, ASATA, SAVRALA

Covered earlier in the meeting.

Website

Needs to be looked at and updated. It’s one of our primary communication VvdB/MG tools and we are not utilising it properly.

Training

Cross sector training regarding computer literacy (3 levels). Proposed project from Paul (Chaufer Driver training).

There being no further business to discuss, the meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the Chair.
